Volume: (2) - Page Number: (280)
- Malik ibn Isma'il Abu Ghassan al-Nahdi narrated to us, from Mas'ud ibn Sa'd, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, from Abdullah ibn al-Harith, that when Ali (peace be upon him) saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had passed away, he stood up and the door was barred. He said: Then al-Abbas came with the sons of Abd al-Muttalib, and they stood at the door while Ali kept saying: "With my father and mother, you were good in life and in death." He said that a fragrant breeze arose, unlike anything they had ever experienced before. Al-Abbas then said to Ali: "Leave your grieving, like a woman's grieving, and turn to your companion." Ali replied: "Enter to the one in your care." The Ansar said: "We beseech you by Allah for our share of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." So, they admitted a man from them called Aws ibn Khawli, carrying a jar in one of his hands.
Ali washed him, placing his hand under the shirt, and al-Fadl held the cloth over him while the Ansari poured water. On Ali's hand was a cloth that he guided into the shirt, which rested on it.
