Narrated from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather: that Ali washed the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), while al-Abbas poured water and Usama and Shuqaran kept watch at the door. When they finished, al-Abbas said, "Out of his grief for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), I will not bury the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the soil, but I will prepare a coffin for him and place it in my house. When I am troubled by something, I will look at it." Ali said to al-Abbas, "Uncle, did you not see the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) burying his children?" Then he recited this verse: {From it We created you, and into it We shall return you, and from it We will bring you out once again} (Surah Ta-Ha 20:55). Then he recited: {Did We not make the earth a receptacle, alive and dead?} (Surah al-Mursalat 77:25-26). While they were like this, a voice called out to them from the direction of the house, saying, "Peace be upon you, O people of the house. {Every soul will taste death} (Surah Al-Imran 3:185). {Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account} (Surah az-Zumar 39:10)." Ali said to al-Abbas, "Be patient, uncle of the Messenger of Allah. You may see what Allah has promised on the tongue of His Prophet." Al-Abbas replied, "O Ali, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, 'The graves of the prophets will be in the place of their beds.'" So they shrouded him in two shirts, one thinner than the other, and al-Abbas and Ali prayed over him, standing side by side, with al-Abbas performing takbir five times, and they buried him.
