Miswar b. Makhramali reported that he heard Allah's Messenger (s.a.w.a.) say, as he sat on the pulpit:

The sons of Hisham b. Mughira have asked my permission to marry their daughter with 'Ali b. Abi Talib (that refers to the daughter of Abu Jahl for whom 'All had sent a proposal for marriage). But I would not allow them, I would not allow them, I would not allow them (and the only alternative possible is) that 'Ali should divorce my daughter (and then marry their daughter), for my daughter is part of me. He who disturbs her in fact disturbs me and he who offends her offends me.

But I do not allow it, I do not allow it, I do not allow it - unless 'Ali bin Abi Talib wishes to divorce my daughter and marry their daughter, because she is a part of me. So, he met him and al-Miswar praised Allah and extolled Him, and then said: "Amma ba'd, I swear by Allah, there is no lineage, reason, or in-law relationship more beloved to me than your lineage, reason, and in-law relationship." But the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, 'Fatimah is a part of me; what angers her angers me, and what pleases her pleases me.' He continued, "And on the Day of Resurrection, all lineages will be severed except for my lineage, reason, and in-law relationship. You have her daughter here, and if I were to marry you, that would prepare her for my return." So, he went, excusing him. - .... Narrated from al-Maswar ibn Makhramah (ra): that he, peace be upon him and his holy progeny, said: "Fāṭimah is a part of me, indeed a part of me. Whoever angers her has angered me." This was reported by al-Bukhari in the Sahih. As for the ruling on one who insults her, al-Suhaili said: "Whoever insults her has indeed committed kufr," and a supporting evidence for this is that when Abū Lubābah tied himself up and swore that nothing would untie him except the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), Fāṭimah came to untie him, but he refused because of his oath. The Messenger of Allah then said: "Indeed, Fāṭimah is a part of me." However, there is a differing opinion on this.
