14138 - Narrated from Aslam: that when they pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr after the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), Ali and al-Zubair would enter upon Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and consult her, returning to her regarding their affairs. When this reached Umar ibn al-Khattab, he went out and entered upon Fatimah, and said: "O daughter of the Messenger of Allah, there is no one among the creation dearer to me than your father, and after your father, there is no one dearer to us than you. By God, this is not because we ignore it. If these few men gather at you, I will command that the door be burned upon them." When Umar went out to them, they came to her. She said: "You know that Umar has come to me and has sworn by God that if you return, he will surely burn the door upon you." And, by God, he will carry out what he has sworn." So they turned away, walking righteously, and fled, as if fleeing from something that causes fear or terror. It is said: "He fled, he flees, he readies himself, and he is fleeing," if he escapes or runs away. Al-Nihayah (3/427) Your opinion, and do not return to me." So they departed from her and did not return to her until they had pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr.
