Omar Reda Kahhalah - A'lam al-Nisa' fi 'Alami al-Arab wa al-Islam

- .... And Abu Bakr checked on some people who had stayed back from his pledge at Ali ibn Abi Talib's (peace be upon him) side, such as al-Abbas, al-Zubair, and Sa'd ibn Ubadah. They sat in Fatimah's house, so Abu Bakr sent Umar ibn al-Khattab to them.
Umar came to them and called out to them while they were in Fatimah's house, but they refused to come out. He then called for firewood and said: "By the One in whose hand is Umar's soul, you will either come out, or I will set it on fire with those inside!" They said to him, "O Abu Hafs, Fatimah is inside!" He replied, "Even if she is...".... Then Fatimah stood at her door and said: "I have no recollection of a people who have presented themselves in a worse manner than you. You left the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) a corpse between our hands and cut off your affair among yourselves, without consulting us or returning to us what is our right...."
