It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.) said: What would you do when the son of Mary would descend amongst you and would lead you as one amongst you? Ibn Abi Dhi'b on the authority of Abu Huraira narrated: Your leader amongst you. Ibn Abi Dhi'b said: Do you know what the words:" He would lead as one amongst you" mean? I said: Explain these to me. He said: He would lead you according to the Book of your: Lord (hallowed be He and most exalted) and the Sunnah of your Apostle (s.a.w.a.).

He will have forty days to roam the earth, with one day of them like a year, one day like a month, and one day like a week. Then the rest of his days will be like your days. He will have a donkey that he rides, the width between its ears will be forty cubits, and he will say to the people: 'I am your Lord.' He is one-eyed, and your Lord is not one-eyed. Written between his eyes will be 'Kafir' (disbeliever) in Arabic, and every believer, whether literate or illiterate, will be able to read it. He will be able to reject all water and wells except for the sanctuaries of the cities of Mecca and Medina, which Allah has made forbidden to him. Angels will stand at their gates, and he will have mountains of bread with him, and the people will be in hardship except for those who follow him. He will have two rivers, and I know more about them than he does: one river will be called 'Paradise' and the other 'Hellfire.' So whoever introduces you to what he calls Paradise is actually Hellfire, and whoever introduces you to what he calls Hellfire is actually Paradise." He said, "Allah will send with him devils that speak to the people, and he will have a great trial. He will command the sky, and it will rain in what the people see, and he will kill a soul and then bring it back to life in front of the people, but he will not be able to exert this power over any other souls, and he will say, 'O people, can anyone do what this does except for the Lord, Almighty and Exalted?'" He said, "The Muslims will flee to a mountain of smoke in the Levant, and he will come to them and besiege them. Their siege will become severe, and they will be in great distress, then Jesus ibn Maryam will descend and call out, 'Who is deceived?' He will say, 'O people, what is preventing you from going out to the wicked liar?' They will say, 'This is a man possessed,' and they will go out and suddenly find themselves with Jesus ibn Maryam (peace be upon him). (p) Prayer will be established, and it will be said to him, 'Lead us in prayer, O Spirit of Allah.' He will reply, 'Let your Imam lead you in prayer,' and when he prays the dawn prayer, they will go out to him. He said, "When he sees the liar, he will dissolve as salt dissolves in water, and he will walk to him and kill him, until even the tree and the stone will call out, 'O Spirit of Allah, this is a Jew,' and he will not leave anyone who was following him without killing them."

It was narrated that Abu Umamah Al-Bahili said: "Umm Sharik bint Abi 'akar said: 'O Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), where will the Arabs be that day?' He said: 'On that day they will be few, and most of them will be in Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem), and their leader will be a righteous man. When their leader has stepped forward to lead them in subh prayer, 'Eisa bin Maryam will come down to them. Their leader will step backwards so that 'Eisa can come forward and lead the people in prayer, but 'Eisa will place his hand between his shoulders and say to him: "Go forward and pray, for the Iqamah was given for you." Then their leader will lead them in prayer.

- His statement: (What will your condition be when the son of Mary descends among you, and your Imam is from yourselves?): .... And Ahmad narrates from the hadith of Jabir regarding the story of the Dajjal and the descent of Jesus, and they will be with Jesus, and it will be said to him: "Advance, O Spirit of God," and he will reply: "Let your Imam advance and lead you in prayer."
- And Ibn Majah has in the lengthy narration of Abu Umamah about the Dajjal that he said: All of them, meaning the Muslims, will be in Jerusalem, and their Imam will be a righteous man who has come forward to pray with them when Jesus descends. The Imam will step back, intending to allow Jesus to take the lead, and Jesus will stand between his shoulders and then say: "Advance, for this is established for you."
- Al-Abadi Abu al-Hasan al-Khas'i mentioned in Manaqib al-Shafi'i: Reports have been transmitted that the Mahdi is from this ummah and that Jesus will pray behind him, mentioning this as a rebuttal to the hadith that Ibn Majah narrated from Anas, which included that there is no Mahdi except Jesus.
- Abu Dharr al-Harawi said: Al-Jawzuqi narrated to us from some of the earlier scholars, who said: The meaning of his statement, "and your Imam is from yourselves," is that he will judge by the Quran, not by the Gospel.
- .... And Jesus praying behind a man from this ummah, despite being in the last days and near the Day of Resurrection, is a sign supporting the correct opinion that the earth will not be devoid of a قائم (Qaim) for Allah with a proof (hujjah).

6440 - How will you be when the son of Mary descends among you, and your Imam is one of you: that is, the caliph from Quraysh, as is appropriate and consistent, or your Imam in prayer will be a man from among you, as mentioned in Muslim, to whom it will be said, "Pray with us," and he will reply, "No, some of you are leaders over others," in honor of this nation. Al-Taybi said: The meaning of the hadith is that Jesus (peace be upon him) will lead you while you are in your religion. The Master Ulama al-Taftazani correctly affirmed that he will lead them, and the Mahdi will follow him, because he is superior; thus, his leadership is more appropriate. In another narration, instead of "your Imam is from you," it says, "will lead you from among you," and its meaning is that he will judge by the Sharia of Islam. This is a question about the state of those who are alive at the descent of Jesus (peace be upon him), how will their joy be at meeting this noble prophet, and how will this nation take pride, while Jesus, the Spirit of God, prays behind their Imam....

2293 - Who is it that Ibn Maryam will pray behind?
- And I say: Until now, I have not been able to determine its chain of narration, but nonetheless, the hadith is authentic in my view because it has been reported separately in other narrations.
- As for him being from the Ahl al-Bayt, there are three hadiths on this:
The first: From the narration of Umm Salama, which Abu Dawud and others narrated with a sound chain, and it is mentioned in "al-Da'eefah" under hadith (80) and in "al-Rawd al-Nadheer" (2 / 54).
The second: From the narration of Ali, which is also mentioned in "al-Rawd" (2 / 53).
The third: From the narration of Abu Sa'id, which is also mentioned in "al-Rawd" and in "al-Mishkat" (5454).
- Numerous reports have been transmitted and have circulated widely among the many narrators from the Chosen One (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) regarding the coming of the Mahdi and that he is from his family .... And that he will appear with Isa ibn Maryam, assisting him in killing the Dajjal .... And that he will lead this Ummah while Isa prays behind him ....
