- .... As for the hadith narrated
from Ibn Umar from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): "In the last times, a man from my descendants will emerge, named like me and bearing my nickname. He will fill the earth with justice as it has been filled with tyranny." And that is the Mahdi, the response is that the hadiths used as proof for the Mahdi's emergence are authentic narrations reported by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, and others from the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud and others, such as his (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) statement in the hadith narrated by Ibn Mas'ud: "If only one day remained of this world, Allah would prolong that day until a man comes out from me or my family, his name will match my name, and his father's name will match my father's name. He will fill the earth with justice and fairness as it has been filled with oppression and tyranny." Al-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud narrated this from the narration of Umm Salamah. Additionally, it mentions that the Mahdi is from my progeny, from the descendants of Fatimah. Abu Dawud also narrated it from the way of Abu Sa'id, which states that he will rule the earth for seven years. It was also narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he looked at Hassan and said: "This son of mine is a master, as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) named him. A man will emerge from his lineage named after your Prophet, resembling him in appearance but not in character, and he will fill the earth with justice." These hadiths have been misunderstood by groups; one group denied them and argued using the hadith in Ibn Majah that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "There is no Mahdi except Jesus, son of Mary." And this hadith is weak ....
