- .... Al-Hakim narrated and affirmed its authenticity from Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that there will be a fitna (tribulation) among the people that will be like gold being refined in a mine, so do not curse the people of Sham (Syria) but curse their oppressors, for among them are the substitutes (abdal). And Allah will send a flood from the sky that will drown them, until even if foxes fought them, they would overcome them.
Then, at that time, Allah will raise a man from the offspring of the Messenger (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) among twelve thousand, or if they are many, fifteen thousand. Their leader will be a sign for them: a community, a community on three banners, fighting against the people of seven banners. None of the banner holders will be without hope of kingship. They will be killed and defeated, then a Hashemite will appear, and Allah will restore to the people their unity and blessings, and they will remain in that state until the Dajjal (Antichrist) emerges.
- .... Ahmad and Abu Dawood
narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "The Hour will not be established until a man from my Ahlul Bayt (holy family) rules the earth." He will have a smooth forehead and an aquiline nose, and the wording of Abu Dawood is: "The Mahdi will be from me, with a smooth forehead and an aquiline nose. He will fill the earth with justice and fairness, just as it was filled before with tyranny and injustice, and he will reign for seven years."
