Various traditions about his (atfs) reappearance

Hadith No: 1

Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Mu'minin:

The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said: Disagreement will occur at the death of a caliph and a man of the people of Medina will come flying forth to Mecca. Some of the people of Mecca will come to him, bring him out against his will and swear allegiance to him between the Corner and the Maqam. An expeditionary force will then be sent against him from Syria but will be swallowed up in the desert between Mecca and Medina. When the people see that, the eminent saints of Syria and the best people of Iraq will come to him and swear allegiance to him between the Corner and the Maqam.

Then there will arise a man of Quraysh whose maternal uncles belong to Kalb and send against them an expeditionary force which will be overcome by them, and that is the expedition of Kalb. Disappointed will be the one who does not receive the booty of Kalb. He will divide the property, and will govern the people by the Sunnah of their Prophet (s.a.w.a.) and establish Islam on Earth. He will remain seven years, then die, and the Muslims will pray over him.

Abu Dawud said: Some transmitted from Hisham "nine years" and some "seven years".

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Qatadah through a different chain of narrators. This version has "nine years".

Abu Dawud said: The other narrators mentioned "nine years" from Hisham except Mu'adh.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Umm Salamah from the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) through a different chain of narrators. The tradition of Mu'adh is more perfect.

It will be said to him, 'If you refuse, we will strike your neck,' and he will be given allegiance by a number resembling the companions at Badr. Those in the heavens and those on earth will be pleased with them." Abu Yusuf said: Muhammad ibn Abdullah narrated to me from Amr ibn Shu'aib, from his father, from Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said: "People will perform Hajj together and recognize each other together without a leader. While they are descending in Mina, they will be taken by something like a dog, and tribes will rise against each other and fight until the slope is drenched in blood. They will then rush to their best, who will be facing the Ka'bah, his face pressed against it, weeping. It will be as if I can see his tears, and he will accept allegiance under duress. If you catch up to him, pledge allegiance to him, for he is the Mahdi on earth and the Mahdi in heaven."

Allah will revive through the Mahdi, Muhammad ibn Abdullah, the traditions that had been neglected, and He will ease, through his justice and blessings, the hearts of the believers. Groups from among the non-Arabs and tribes from among the Arabs will be united with him, and he will remain in this manner for several years, not many, less than ten, then he will die.

- .... Ahmad narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I give you good news of the Mahdi, whom Allah will send in my Ummah during a time of اختلاف (division) and زلازل (earthquakes). He will fill the earth with justice and fairness as it has been filled with injustice and oppression." Both the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth will be pleased with him. He will divide the earth in prosperity. A man said to him, "What is meant by prosperity?" He replied, "Equality among the people." He will fill the hearts of the Ummah of Muhammad with wealth, and his justice will accommodate them until he commands a caller to announce, saying, 'Whoever has a need in their wealth may come forward.' Then no one from the Muslims will stand up except for one man who will say, 'Go to the steward,' meaning the guardian, 'and tell him that the Mahdi orders you to give me some money.' He will say, 'Gather,' and when he places it in his lap and presents it, he will regret it and say, 'I was the most miserly of the Ummah of Muhammad, even though what I could not manage was within their means.' He will then return, but it will not be accepted from him, and it will be said to him, 'We do not take anything we have given.'" It will be like this for seven years, or eight years, or nine years, and then there will be no good in life afterward." He said, "Then there will be no good in living after him."
- .... Ahmad, al-Tirmidhi, who deemed it good, and Ibn Majah narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) who said, "The Mahdi will emerge in my Ummah after five or seven." Abu al-Jouri was uncertain and said, "What did he mean?" We said, "Years." Then the sky will send down rain upon them in abundance, and the earth will not withhold any of its vegetation. Wealth will be like a pile, and a man will come to him and say, 'O Mahdi, give me, give me,' and he will sprinkle what he can carry into his cloak."

- Chapter seventy-eight: Regarding the mention of what is in the book Farā'id al-Samṭayn and others, and in the book Farā'id al-Samṭayn by Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Juwayni al-Khurasani al-Hamawini, the muhadith, faqih, and Shafi'i: With his chain of narration from Sheikh Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Ya'qub al-Kalabadi al-Bukhari, with his chain from Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari (may he be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Whoever denies the appearance of the Mahdi has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad," and whoever denies the descent of Jesus has disbelieved, and whoever denies the emergence of the Dajjal (Antichrist) has disbelieved.
- And in this book, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "My successors, my heirs, and the proofs of Allah on His creation after me are twelve. The first of them is Ali, and the last of them is my son, the Mahdi." The Spirit of God, Jesus son of Mary, will descend and pray behind the Mahdi, the earth will be illuminated with the light of its Lord, and his authority will reach the east and the west.
3 - And in it: With his chain of narration from Ubayyah ibn Rub'i from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the leader of the prophets, and Ali is the leader of the successors. My successors after me will be twelve, the first of whom is Ali and the last of whom is the Mahdi."

5 - And in it: from Abu Nu'aym al-Hafiz from Ibn Umar who said: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "The Mahdi will emerge, and there will be a king on his head calling out: This is the Mahdi, the Khalifah of Allah, so follow him."
7 - And in it: from Sa'id ibn Jubayr from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Ali is my successor, and from his descendants is the Awaited Qaim, the Mahdi, who will fill the earth with justice and fairness as it has been filled with injustice and oppression." And the one who sent me with the truth as a bringer of good news and a warner, those steadfast in the belief of his Imamate during his period of occultation will be more precious than red sulfur. Then Jaber ibn Abdullah stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, will the Qaim from your progeny have an occultation? He replied: Yes, by my Lord {and Allah will purify those who believe and eradicate the disbelievers} (Surah Al-Imran 3:141). Then he said: O Jaber, this is a matter from the matters of Allah and a secret from the secrets of Allah, so beware of doubt, for doubt in the matter of Allah, the Almighty, is disbelief.
- And in it: from al-Hasan ibn Khalid who said: Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said: There is no religion for one who has no piety, and the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is the most reverent of you: that is, the one who acts most in accordance with taqwa. Then he said: The fourth from my descendants will be the son of a Lady, through whom Allah will purify the earth of all injustice and oppression, and he is the one in whose birth people will doubt, and he is the Master of Occultation. When he emerges, the earth will shine with the light of its Lord and he will establish the balance of justice among the people, so no one will wrong another. He is the one for whom the earth will be folded, and he will not have a shadow. He is the one who will be called by a herald from the heavens, heard by all the inhabitants of the earth: "Beware, the Khalifah of Allah has appeared near the House of Allah, so follow him, for the truth is in him and with him," and this is the statement of Allah, the Exalted: {If We wish, We could send down to them from heaven a sign, and their necks would remain humbled before it} (Surah Ash-Shu'ara 26:4).
- And the word of Allah, the Exalted: {And listen on the Day the caller calls from a place nearby @ the Day they will hear the blast in truth. That is the Day of emergence} (Surah Qaf 50:41-42) refers to the emergence of my son, the Qaim, the Mahdi (peace be upon him).

10 - The author of the Arba'in: Narrated from Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "Woe to this nation from the kings of tyrants! How they will kill and expel Muslims, except for those who show obedience to them. The believer, pious one, will resist them with his tongue and flee from them with his heart. When Allah, Blessed and Exalted be He, wills to restore Islam in power, He will break every arrogant, aggressive one, and He is capable of what He wills, and He will set right the nation after its corruption. O Hudhayfa, if only one day remains of the world, Allah would prolong that day until a man from my Ahlul Bayt takes control, manifesting Islam." And Allah does not fail in His promise, and He is capable of fulfilling His promise.
12 - Muhammad ibn Yusuf al-Kunji al-Shafi'i narrated from Ali (peace be upon him) who said: "Blessed, blessed are the people of Talqan, for Allah, the Exalted, has treasures that are not of gold or silver, but they are men of understanding who truly know Allah. They are also the supporters of the Mahdi (peace be upon him) in the latter times."

5 - And in it: from Ubayyah ibn Rub'i from Ibn Abbas, who reported it as a raise: "I am the master of the prophets, and Ali is the master of the successors, and that my successors after me will be twelve, the first of whom is Ali and the last of whom is the Mahdi."
6 - And in it: from Abu Umamah al-Bahili, who reported it as a raise: "There will be seven years between you and the Romans." A man from Banu Abd al-Qays, known as al-Mustawrid, said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, who will be the leader of the people on that day?" He replied: "The Mahdi from my descendants, a son of forty years." His face will be like a luminous star, with a black mole on his right cheek, wearing two qatwani cloaks, appearing like a man from the Children of Israel, extracting treasures and opening the cities of polytheism.

- .... Al-Hafiz Abu Nu'aym narrated forty hadiths about the Mahdi (peace be upon him):
29 - Among them is from Abu Umamah who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) delivered a sermon to us and mentioned the Dajjal (Antichrist) and said: "The city (Medina) will cleanse itself of impurities as a forge removes the dross of iron, and that day will be called the Day of Salvation." Then Umm Sharik said: "Where will the Arabs be on that day, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "They will be few in number, and most of them will be at the Holy House (in Jerusalem), and their leader will be the Mahdi, a righteous man."
