1 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah and Muhammad ibn Yahya, both from Abdullah ibn Ja'far al-Himyari, who said: I and Sheikh Abu Amr were together with Ahmad ibn Ishaq, and Ahmad ibn Ishaq gestured to me to ask him about the successor. So I said to him: O Abu Amr, I want to ask you about something, and I am not uncertain about what I want to ask you. My belief and my religion is that the Earth does not remain devoid of a proof (hujjah) except for forty days before the Day of Resurrection. When that time comes, the proof will be lifted and the door of repentance will be closed, so no faith will benefit a soul that did not believe before or earn some good in its faith. Those are the evil ones among the creations of Allah, the Almighty, and they are the ones upon whom the Resurrection will be established. However, I would like to increase my certainty. And indeed, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) asked his Lord, the Almighty, to show him how He gives life to the dead. He said, "Did you not believe?" He replied, "Yes, but I wish to have my heart assured." Abu Ali Ahmad ibn Ishaq had informed me about this, saying that he heard from Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) who said: I asked him and said, "Whom should I deal with, or who should I take from, and whose words should I accept?" He replied, "Al-Umari is my trusted one. Whatever he conveys to you from me, he conveys from me, and whatever he tells you on my behalf, he tells on my behalf. So listen to him and obey, for he is the trusted and trustworthy one." Abu Ali also informed me that he asked Abu Muhammad (peace be upon him) about something similar, and he replied: "Al-Umari and his son are both trustworthy. Whatever they convey to you from me, they convey from me, and whatever they say to you is what I would say. So listen to them and obey, for they are the two trusted and trustworthy ones." This is the statement of two Imams who have passed regarding you. Then Abu Amr fell to the ground in prostration, weeping, and said: "Ask your need." I said to him: "Did you see the successor after Abu Muhammad (peace be upon him)?" He replied: "Indeed, by Allah, and I saw his neck like this," and he gestured with his hand. I said to him: "So there is one remaining." He said to me: "Bring it forth." I asked: "What is it, then? The name?" He said: "It is forbidden for you to ask about that, and I do not say this from myself, for I have no right to permit or prohibit. It is only from him (peace be upon him), for the matter before the ruler is that Abu Muhammad has passed away and left no child. His inheritance has been divided, and it is being taken by those who have no rightful claim to it. And behold, his dependents are wandering, with none daring to approach them or offer them anything. When the name is revealed, the demand will arise. So fear Allah and refrain from that."

5 - ʿAlī bin Ibrāhīm from al-Ḥasan bin Mūsā al-Khshāb from ʿAbdullāh bin Mūsā from ʿAbdullāh bin Bakīr from Zurārah who said: I heard Abā ʿAbdillāh (peace be upon him) say: "The boy will have an occultation before he rises." I said, "And why?" He replied, "He will be in danger," and he gestured with his hand to his abdomen. Then he said, "O Zurārah, he is the Expected One, and he is the one whose birth they will doubt. Some of them will say, 'His father died without a successor,' and others will say, 'He was carried away,' and others will say, 'He was born two years before his father's death.' He is the Expected One, although Allah, the Almighty, loves to test the Shīʿah, so at that time, the false ones will be in doubt, O Zurārah." Zurārah said: I said, "May I be sacrificed for you! If I reach that time, what should I do?" He replied, "O Zurārah, if you reach this time, pray with this supplication: 'O Allah, introduce me to Yourself, for if You do not introduce me to Yourself, I will not know Your Prophet. O Allah, introduce me to Your Messenger, for if You do not introduce me to Your Messenger, I will not know Your Proof. O Allah, introduce me to Your Proof, for if You do not introduce me to Your Proof, I will stray from my religion.'" Then he said, "O Zurārah, there must be the killing of a boy in the city." I said, "May I be sacrificed for you! Will it not be an army from the Sufyānī that kills him?" He replied, "No, but an army from the family of Banu Fulān will come until they enter the city, capture the boy, and kill him. When he is killed, out of envy, aggression, and injustice, they will not be given respite. Then, at that time, anticipate relief, if Allah wills."
