And I heard some say that Mu'awiya had taken a kind approach with one of his servants to have him give him poison.- .... Muhammad ibn Sa'd said: I was told by Yahya ibn Hammal, who said: Abu 'Awaneq narrated to me from al-Mughirah
from Umm Musa that Ja'dah, the daughter of al-Ashtar ibn Qays, poisoned al-Hasan, and he fell ill from it. He said that he was placed under a basin and another basin was raised for nearly forty days.

And some narrated that Yazid ibn Mu'awiya sent to Ja'dah, the daughter of al-Ashtar, asking her to poison al-Hasan and that he would marry her afterward, and she did. When al-Hasan died, she sent to him, and he replied: "By Allah, we were not pleased with you for al-Hasan. Would we be pleased with you for ourselves?"
