2 - Abu Ya'la said: Abdul Rahman ibn Salih al-Azdi narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Rahim ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Layth ibn Abi Sulaym, from Hudeir ibn al-Hasan al-Absi, from a freedman of Zaynab or from some of her family, from Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was in my house and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was with me when he had just begun to walk, I became heedless of him, and he entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and sat on his belly and urinated. I went to take him away, but the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) awakened and said: "Leave him." So I left him until he was finished, then he called for water and said: "It will be poured off the boy and washed off the girl," and they poured water over it. Then he performed ablution and stood up to pray. When he stood, he drew Husayn (peace be upon him) to him, and when he would bow or sit, he would place him down, then sit and pray, and he prayed. He wept, then stretched out his hands. I said to him when he finished the prayer: "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you do something today that I have not seen you do before." He (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to me and informed me that my son will be killed by my ummah." I said: "Show me his soil." So he showed me his soil, which was red."

I looked in and saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) turning something over in his hand, and the child was asleep on his stomach. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you turning something in your hand while the child was asleep on your stomach, and your tears were flowing." 4451 - Ishaq said: Al-Mughira ibn Salama al-Makhzumi narrated to us: Mahdi ibn Maymun narrated to us from Wasil, the freedman of Abu 'Uyayna, from Yahya ibn Aqil, from Abu Yahya, from a man of Banu Dabba, who said: "I witnessed Ali when he descended at Karbala, and he went and stood in a corner, then gestured with his hand and said: 'The stopping place of their mounts is in front of him, and the site of their tents is to his left.' Then he struck his hand on the ground, took a handful of earth, and smelled it, saying: 'Oh, my beloved, and how wonderful! The bloodshed that will occur here.' Then al-Husayn came and descended at Karbala." The Dabbani said: "I was among the horses that Ibn Ziyad sent to al-Husayn, and when we arrived, it was as if I saw Ali standing and gesturing with his hand." Then my horse reared, and I turned back to al-Husayn ibn Ali, greeted him, and said: 'Your father was the most knowledgeable of people, and I witnessed him during such and such a time,' and he replied, 'Such and such a time. And you, by God, are surely to be killed at this moment.' I asked, 'What do you intend to do? Will you join us, or will you go back to your family?' I said, 'By God, Ali is with us, and I have dependents. I do not think I will do anything but join my family.' He said, 'If not, take what you need from this money,' and it was wealth laid out between them, 'for it is something that will be before it is forbidden to you. Then, seek safety, for, by God, no one will hear the call or see the sign, and whoever prevents us will be cursed on the tongue of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).' I said, 'By God, I will not combine two things today: take your money and forsake you.' So I turned and left it."

Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani - Tahdhib al-Tahdhib - Chapter on the letter Ha - Those Named al-Husayn
615 - Al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib al-Hashimi
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (347)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]:
615 - Al-Husayn ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib al-Hashimi, Abu Abdullah al-Madani, grandson of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and his fragrant flower from this world, one of the two masters of the youth of Paradise.... From Abdullah ibn Najji, from his father: who said that he traveled with Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was the keeper of his ritual purity, and when they passed by Nineveh while he was on his way to Siffin, Ali called out, "Patience, Abu Abdullah! Patience, Abu Abdullah!" by the banks of the Euphrates. I asked, 'Who is this, Abu Abdullah?' He replied, 'I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his eyes were overflowing with tears.' I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry?' He said, 'No, but Gabriel stood up from my side before and told me that Husayn would be killed by the banks of the Euphrates, and he said, ''Do you want me to let you smell his soil?'' I replied, 'Yes.' So he extended his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me, and I could not help my eyes from overflowing.
- .... From Umm Salamah, who said: Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn used to play in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in my house, and Gabriel descended and said, 'O Muhammad! Your nation will kill your son after you,' and he gestured with his hand to Al-Husayn. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) wept and hugged him to his chest. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I have placed this soil with you." He smelled it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "It is the scent of sorrow and trial," and he added, "O Umm Salamah, when this soil changes to blood, know that my son has been killed." So Umm Salamah kept it in a bottle and would look at it every day, saying, "A day will come when you change to blood, and it will be a great day."
- .... And Ammar al-Duhani said that Ali passed by Ka'b and said: "A man from the offspring of this one will be killed in a group," not a drop of their horses' sweat drying until they return to Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." He passed by Hasan, and they said, "This is him." He replied, "No," then he passed by Husayn, and they said, "This is him." He said, "Yes."
- .... Thna Abu Abdullah al-Dhubi said: We visited Ibn Hartham al-Dhubi when he returned from Siffin, and he was with Ali. He said: "We were returning from Siffin and stopped at Karbala, and Ali led us in the Fajr prayer. Then he took a handful of the droppings of gazelles and smelled it, then said, 'Oh, oh! By this ghayt (place of dung), a people will be killed who will enter Paradise without account.'
- From Jurda'a bint Samir, from her husband Harthamah ibn Sulayma, who said: "We went out with Ali, and he journeyed until he reached Karbala, where he stopped at a tree and prayed. He took some soil from the ground and smelled it, then said, 'Woe to you! A people will be killed by you who will enter Paradise without account.'" He said: "We returned from our battles, and Ali was killed, and I forgot the hadith. I was in the army that marched towards Husayn, and when I reached him, I looked at the tree and remembered the hadith. So I moved ahead on my horse and said, 'I bring you glad tidings, son of the daughter of the Messenger of Allah,' and I told him the story. He asked, 'With us or against us?' I replied, 'Neither with you nor against you; I left dependents behind and am returning.' He said, 'As for those who flee to the earth, by the One in whose hand is Husayn's soul, no man will witness our slaughter today except that he will enter Hell.' So I fled, turning to run in the earth until I could no longer see his demise."
