Al-Tabarani - al-Mu'jam al-Kabir - Chapter on the Letter Meem - Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As from Mu'adh
Volume: (20) - Page Number: (38)
56 - Al-Hasan ibn al-Abbas al-Razi narrated to us, saying: Sulaim ibn Mansur ibn Ammar narrated to us, from my father, and Ahmadi ibn Yahya ibn Khalid ibn Hibban al-Ruqyi narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Bakir ibn Bakkar al-Qan'ubi narrated to us, from Mujashii ibn Amr, who both said: Ibn Luheiya narrated to us, from Abi Qubail, who told me that Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As said that Mu'adh ibn Jabal informed him, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) appeared before us with a changed complexion and said: "I am Muhammad, who has been given the beginnings and endings of speech. So obey me as long as I am among you. And when I am taken away, you must rely on the Book of Allah. Consider as lawful its lawful things and its unlawful things as unlawful." The موتة (mawtah, a type of divine trial) will come to you, coming with spirit and ease, a Book from Allah that has been decreed. It will come to you with trials like dark, shadowy pieces of night. Whenever a messenger departs, another will come. Prophethood will be passed down until it becomes monarchy. May Allah have mercy on the one who takes it with its due rights and exits from it as they entered it." He continued, "Hold on, O Mu'adh, and count." He said: When he reached five, he added: "May Allah not bless Yazid." Then his eyes filled with tears,
and he said: "It has been announced to me the demise of Hussein, and I have been shown his martyrdom and informed of his killer," and he added, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, he will not be killed among a people who do not defend him except that Allah will cause conflict between their hearts and souls, and He will unleash the worst of them upon them, dress them in factions." Then he said: "Woe to the offspring of the family of Muhammad from a successor, appointed, indulged, who will kill in my presence and the presence of my successors." He continued, "Hold on, O Mu'adh." When he reached ten, he said: "Al-Walid is the name of Pharaoh, the destroyer of the laws of Islam, before whom is a man from his household, who will not sheath or return the sword of Allah." The people will differ, and they will be like this - and he interlocked his fingers - then he said: "After twenty and one hundred, there will be swift deaths and terrible killings, and in it will be their destruction. Woe to them from a man who will rule over them, one of the children of Abbas." Their words were the same.
