- .... Then Husayn said, "No, by Allah, that will never be!" So he fought him, and the companions of Husayn were all killed, among them around twelve young men from his family. Aarrow came to him and struck one of his sons in his lap, and he began to wipe the blood away, saying: "O Allah, judge between us and a people who called us to help, then killed us." Then he ordered a cloak to be torn and wore it, and he went out with his sword, fighting until he was killed. He was killed by a man from Madhhij, who severed his head and went to Ibn Ziyad with it, saying about this:
"Load my mounts with silver and gold, for I have killed the veiled king.
I killed the best of people, mother and father, and the best of them in noble lineage."
He said: So he was sent to Yazid ibn Muawiya, who placed his head between his hands, and Abu Barzah al-Aslami was with him. Yazid kept striking his lips with a stick and saying:
"He will shatter the heads of men, mighty ones, * to us, while they were more unjust and more misguided."
Abu Barzah said to him, "Lift your stick, for by Allah, I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sometimes placing it on his lips, kissing him..."

- .... From Anas who said: A king of the heavens sought permission to come to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he was granted permission. He said to Umm Salama: "Keep the door closed for us; let no one enter." Then Al-Husayn ibn Ali came and leaped in until he entered, and he began to climb onto the shoulders of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). The king said: "Do you love him?" He replied: "Yes." The king said: "Your ummah will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the place where he will be killed." Then he struck his hand and showed him some red dust. Umm Salama took that dust and tucked it into the corner of her cloth, saying: "We used to hear that he would be killed in Karbala."

- .... Narrated from Aisha or Umm Salamah: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "A angel has entered my house who has not entered before her, and he said to me: 'Your son, this Hussein, will be killed, and if you wish, I can show you the land where he will be killed.'" Then he took out red soil. This hadith has been narrated through other chains from Umm Salamah, and Al-Tabarani narrated it from Abu Umamah, including the story of Umm Salamah. Muhammad ibn Sa'd also narrated it from Aisha in a manner similar to Umm Salamah's narration. Allah knows best. It was also reported from the tradition of Zaynab bint Jahsh and Lubabah, Umm al-Fadl, the wife of Abbas, and several others from the Tabi'un narrated it as well.

- .... Ibn Kathir narrated to us: Ash'ath ibn Suhaym from his father, who said: I heard Anas ibn al-Harith say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "My son, meaning Hussein, will be killed in a land called Karbala." So whoever among you witnesses that, let him support him. Then Anas ibn al-Harith went out to Karbala and was killed with Hussein. He said, "And I do not know of anyone else who narrated it."
- .... And Imam Ahmad said: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Sharahil ibn Mudarik narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Yahya, from his father, that he traveled with Ali - who was his water-bearer - and when they came to Nineveh, while he was en route to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, O Abu Abdullah! Be patient, O Abu Abdullah! On the banks of the Euphrates." I said, "What do you want?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears." I said, "What makes you weep, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Indeed, Gabriel stood up from beside me before and told me that Hussein will be killed on the banks of the Euphrates." He then said, "Would you like me to let you smell his soil?" So he extended his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me, and I could not help my eyes from overflowing.

- .... from Ali ibn Abi Talib that he passed by Karbala at the trees of colocynth while on his way to Siffin and asked about its name. It was said to him: Karbala. He replied: "Kurb and bala" (grief and trial). Then he stopped and prayed at a tree there, and said: "Martyrs will be killed here who are the best of martyrs, except for the companions, and they will enter Paradise without account." And he pointed to a place there, and they marked it with something, and Hussein was killed in it.

- .... Ibn Abbas said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in a dream around noon, disheveled and dusty, holding a vial containing blood. I said, 'My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah! What is this?' He said, 'This is the blood of Hussein and his companions. I have been continuously collecting it since today.' Ummar said: So we counted those killed that day and found that they had been killed on that day." Ahmad is unique in this narration, and its chain is strong.
- .... Ibn Abi Dunya said: Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Hani, Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Nahwi, narrated to us, Mahdi ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Ali ibn Zayd ibn Jad'an narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abbas awoke from his sleep and uttered a phrase of remembrance (ta'ziyah), saying: "Hussein has been killed, by Allah!" His companions said to him, "Why, O Ibn Abbas?" He replied: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with a vial of blood and he said, 'Do you know what my Ummah has done after me? They killed Hussein, and this is his blood and the blood of his companions, which I am lifting to Allah.'" So it was recorded that day he spoke of and that hour, and they did not wait more than twenty-four days until news came to them in Medina that he was killed on that day and at that hour.
- .... Al-Tirmidhi narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj, from Abu Khalid al-Ahmar, from Razeem from Salmi, who said: "I entered upon Umm Salama while she was crying, and I said, 'What makes you cry?' She said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with dust on his head and beard.' So I said, 'What is wrong with you, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'I just witnessed the killing of Hussein.'"
