- Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Qadi, and Abu Muhammad ibn Abi Hamid al-Muqri narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: al-Abbas ibn Muhammad al-Duri narrated to us, from Khalid ibn Makhlad, from Musa ibn Ya'qub, from Hashim ibn Hashim ibn Utbah ibn Abi Waqqas, from Abdullah ibn Wahb ibn Zama'ah, who said: Umm Salamah informed me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) lay down one day to sleep, then woke up in a state of confusion. He then lay down again and dozed off, and woke up once more in a state of confusion, although not as much as I had seen from him the first time. He then lay down again and woke up, holding a red soil in his hand, which he was turning over. I said, "What is this soil, O Messenger of Allah?"
He said, "Gabriel (peace be upon him) informed me that this will be killed in the land of Iraq - for al-Husayn." I said, "O Gabriel, show me the soil of the land where he will be killed, and this is its soil." Musa al-Juhani followed him, narrating from Salih ibn Zayd al-Nakha'i, from Umm Salamah, and Aban from Shuhr ibn Hushab, from Umm Salamah.
- Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to me, saying: Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jawhari narrated to us in Baghdad, saying: Abu al-Ahwass Muhammad ibn al-Haytham al-Qadi narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Mus'ab, from al-Awza'i, from Abu Ammar Shaddad ibn Abdullah, from Umm al-Fadl bint al-Harith, that she entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw a troubling dream of you last night." He said, "What is it?" She replied, "It is severe." He said, "What is it?" She said, "I saw as if a piece of your body was cut off and placed in my lap." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "You saw good. Fatimah will give birth to a son, insha'Allah, and he will be in your lap." Fatimah gave birth to al-Husayn, and he was in my lap, as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said. One day, I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and placed him in my lap, and then I turned my gaze, only to see the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) shedding tears. She said, so I said, "O
Prophet of Allah, dearer to me than my father and mother, what is the matter with you?" He said, "Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to me and informed me that my community will kill my son." I said, "Is this true?" He replied, "Yes, and he brought me a sample of his red soil."- Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ubayd al-Saffar narrated to us, from Bishr ibn Musa, from Abd al-Samad - meaning, ibn Hasan - from Umara - meaning, ibn Zadhan, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: An angel of rain sought permission to come to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he granted permission. He said to Umm Salamah, "Keep the door closed; let no one enter." She said, then al-Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon him) came, leaped, and entered, beginning to climb onto the shoulder of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). The angel said to him, "Do you love him?" The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "Yes."
The angel said, "Then there are some in your community who will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the place where he will be killed." The angel then struck his hand and showed him a patch of red soil." Umm Salamah (peace be upon her) took it, and in the narration of Sulayman ibn Ahmad, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smelled it and said, "It is the scent of distress and calamity." He said, "We used to hear that he would be killed in Karbala."
