- .... Muhammad ibn Ubayd al-Tanufasi said: Sharhabil ibn Mudrik al-Ju'fi narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Najji, from his father, that he traveled with Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was his companion in purification, and when they reached Nineveh while he was en route to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, O Abu Abdullah! Be patient, O Abu Abdullah! Near the Euphrates." I said, "Who is this Abu Abdullah?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes overflowing with tears?'" He said, 'Yes, Gabriel stood up from beside me before and told me that al-Husayn would be killed by the Euphrates, and he said, "Would you like me to smell you from his soil?"' I said, "Yes," so he stretched out his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me, and I could not help but have my eyes overflow as well.

- .... Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Abi al-Khayr informed us of this, saying: Abu al-Qasim Yahya ibn As'ad ibn Bush narrated to us, saying: Abu Ghalib ibn al-Banna narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Ghana'im ibn al-Mamun narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Qasim ibn Hababah narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi narrated to me, saying: Yusuf ibn Musa al-Qattan narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd mentioned him and said that Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi ibn Abi Shaybah al-Habtzi narrated to them, saying: Imarah ibn Zadhan narrated to us, saying: Thabit narrated to us from Anas, who said: A king of the rain requested permission from his Lord, the Almighty, to visit the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and He granted him permission. It was on the day of Umm Salamah. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "O Umm Salamah, keep the door closed for us; let no one enter." While she was at the door, al-Husayn ibn Ali came, jumped, and entered. He leaped onto the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) began to kiss and embrace him. The king then said to him, "Do you love him?" He replied, "Yes." The king said, "Your ummah will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the place where he will be killed." He then showed him a location, bringing a handful of soil or red dust. Umm Salamah took it and placed it in her cloth. Thabit said: We used to say it was Karbala.

- .... And he said: Ubadah ibn Ziyad al-Asadi narrated to us, from Amr ibn Thabit, from al-A'mash, from Abi Wa'il, Shaqiq ibn Salamah from Umm Salamah, who said: Al-Hasan and al-Husayn were playing in front of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in my house when Gabriel descended and said: O Muhammad, your ummah will kill this son of yours after you, and he gestured with his hand towards al-Husayn. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) wept, held him to his chest, and then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I have placed this soil with you." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) smelled it and said: "The scent of anguish and tribulation." And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: O Umm Salamah, when this soil transforms into blood, know that my son has been killed. Umm Salamah kept it in a vial and would look at it every day, saying: "A day will come when you will transform into blood, and it will be a great day."
- .... And Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih al-Azdhi said, from Abi Bakr ibn Iyash, from Musa ibn Uqbah, from Dawud, who said: Umm Salamah said: Al-Husayn entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he was startled. Umm Salamah said: What is wrong with you, O Messenger of Allah? He replied: "Gabriel informed me that this son of mine will be killed and that God's anger has intensified against those who kill him."

- .... And Abd al-Jabbar ibn al-Abbas narrated from Ammar al-Duhani: Ali passed by Ka'bwho said: "A man from the offspring of this one will be killed in a group, and the sweat of their horses will not dry until they return to Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." Then al-Hasan passed by, and they said: "This is [the one], O Abu Ishaq." He replied: "No." Then al-Husayn passed by, and they said: "This is [the one]." He said: "Yes."
- .... And Muhammad ibn Sa'd said: Yahya ibn Hammad informed us, saying: Abu 'Awaneq narrated to us from Sulayman, meaning al-Amash, who said: Abu Abdullah al-Dubbi narrated to us, saying: We visited Ibn Hartham al-Dubbi when he returned from Siffin, and he was with Ali. He was sitting on his little platform, and he had a wife named Khardha who was more fervently in love with Ali and more firmly affirming his strength than anyone else. Then a sheep came and defecated, and he said: "The droppings of this sheep remind me of a حديث (narration) about Ali." They asked, "What did Ali know about this?" He replied: "We were returning from our journey from Siffin and stopped in Karbala. Ali stopped and prayed the Fajr prayer with us between some small trees and tamarisk bushes. Then he took a handful of the droppings of the ghazals and smelled it, and then said: 'Oh, woe! Woe to those who will be killed by this dung; a people who will enter Paradise without reckoning.'" Khardha said, "What is strange about this? He knows what he is saying better than you," and she called out this while in the inner room.
- .... And Abu al-Hasan al-Darqutni said: Muhammad ibn Nu'h al-Jandysaburi narrated to us, saying: Ali ibn Harb al-Jandysaburi narrated to us, saying: Ishaq ibn Sulayman narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Abi Qays narrated to us from Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Abyan from Qudamah al-Dubbi from Khardha, daughter of Samir, from her husband Harthamah ibn Sulami, who said: "We went out with Ali in one of the expeditions, and he traveled until he reached Karbala. He stopped at a tree to pray and took some soil from the ground, smelled it, and then said: 'Woe to you, O soil! By you, a people will be killed who will enter Paradise without reckoning.'" He continued, "Then we returned from our campaigns, and Ali was killed, and I forgot the narration." He said: "I was in the army that marched against al-Husayn, and when I reached him, I looked at the tree and remembered the narration. I advanced on my horse and said: 'I bring you glad tidings, son of the granddaughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny),'" and I told him the story. He asked, "With us or against us?" I replied, "Neither with you nor against you. I left dependents behind." He then said: "If not, then in the Earth, by the One in whose hand is the soul of al-Husayn, no man will witness our killing today except that he will enter Hell." Then I went away, fleeing, turning my back on the Earth, until al-Husayn's death became hidden from me.
