- .... Al-Tabarani narrated in al-Kabir and Ibn Sa'd from Aisha (peace be upon her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: Gabriel informed me that my son Hussein would be killed in the land of Taff, and he came to me with this soil and told me that it would be his resting place.
- .... Imam Ahmad narrated from Thabit, from Anas (peace be upon him), who said: The Angel of Rain sought permission to visit the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he was granted permission. He said to Umm Salamah (peace be upon her): Keep the door secure; let no one enter. Then Hussein came and leaped to enter, climbing onto the shoulder of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). The angel said: Do you love him? The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, Yes. He said: Your community will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the place where he will be killed. Then he struck his hand and showed him red soil. Umm Salamah took that soil and kept it in the corner of her garment, and we began to hear of his death in Karbala.
- .... Al-Bayhaqi narrated it from the narration of Wahb ibn Rabi'ah, adding that Umm Salamah (peace be upon her) told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) lay down one day and awoke, his eyes overflowing with tears. Then he lay down and fell asleep again, waking to be in the same state but less than what I had seen from him in the first instance. He lay down again and awoke, holding red soil in his hand, which he was kissing. I said: What is this soil, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Gabriel informed me that my son will be killed in the land of Iraq. I asked him, O Gabriel, show me the soil of that land, and he replied: This is its soil.
- .... Al-Bazzar narrated from Ibn Abbas (peace be upon him) who said: Hussein was sitting in the lap of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and Gabriel said to him: Do you love him? He replied: How could I not love him, for he is the fruit of my heart. He then said: Your community will kill him. Shall I show you the location of his grave? He clasped his hand, and there was red soil.
- .... Imam Ahmad narrated from Abdullah ibn Yahya, from his father, that he traveled with Amir al-Mu'minin Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and when they reached the bank of the Euphrates, he said: Goodness, O Abdullah. He said: What is that, O Commander of the Faithful? He replied: I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said: What is this, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Gabriel (peace be upon him) stood from my side and informed me that Hussein would be killed by the bank of the Euphrates, and he asked: Would you like me to let you smell his soil? I replied: Yes, and he took a handful of soil and gave it to me, and I could not help but have my eyes overflow with tears.
- .... Imam Ahmad narrated from Abu Umamah al-Bahili (peace be upon him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, Do not weep for this child - meaning Hussein. It was the day of Umm Salamah, and Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to Umm Salamah: Do not let anyone enter. Then Hussein came, and she took him and held him. He cried, and she let him enter until he sat in the lap of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Gabriel (peace be upon him) said: Your community will kill him. He asked: Will they kill him while they are believers? He replied: Yes, and showed him some of the soil.
