When they passed by Nineveh while he was en route to Siffin, Ali called out: "Have patience, Abu Abdullah! Have patience, Abu Abdullah, near the banks of the Euphrates!" I said, "Who is Abu Abdullah?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said: 'O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? Why are your eyes overflowing with tears?'" He said: "No, rather Gabriel stood up from beside me and informed me that Husayn would be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." And he asked, 'Do you wish for me to let you smell his soil?'" I said, "Yes," so he stretched out his hand, clenched it into a fist, and gave it to me. I could not help but let my eyes overflow.
- From Abdullah ibn Naji, from his father, who said that he traveled with Ali and that Ibn al-Muqri said he asked Ali, and they both said he was his purifier's (the Prophet's) attendant. When they passed by Nineveh while he was en route to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, Abu Abdullah! Be patient, Abu Abdullah, by the banks of the Euphrates!" I said, "And what is this, Abu Abdullah?" He replied: "I entered upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears." I said: "O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? Why are your eyes overflowing with tears?" He said: "No, rather Gabriel stood from me and informed me that Husayn would be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." He then said, 'Is it alright for me to let you smell his soil?'" I said, "Yes," so he stretched out his hand, and Ibn Handan said he clenched a fistful of soil and gave it to me. I could not control my eyes from overflowing.

Why are your eyes overflowing with tears?" He said: "No, rather Gabriel stood from me and informed me that Husayn would be killed by the banks of the Euphrates." He then said, 'Is it possible for me to let you smell his soil?'" I said, "Yes," so he stretched out his hand, clenched a fistful of soil, and gave it to me. Abu Abdullah, the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and his delight in this world
Volume: (14) - Page Number: (190/191)
- Abu Ali al-Haddad and a group of others narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Raydhah narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn Ahmad, from Ali ibn Sa'id al-Razi, from Isma'il ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Mughira al-Mawruzi, from Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Waqid, who said: My father narrated to me, from Abu Ghalib, from Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to his wives, "Do not weep for this child" - meaning Husayn. He said: It was the day of Umm Salamah when Gabriel (peace be upon him) descended and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered and said to Umm Salamah, "Do not let anyone enter upon me." Then Husayn came, and when he saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the house, he wanted to enter, but Umm Salamah took him, embraced him, and began to play with him and soothe him. When he persisted in crying, she let him go, and he entered until he sat in the lap of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then Gabriel said to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), "Your community will kill this son of yours." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "They will kill him while they are believers in me." Gabriel said, "Yes, they will kill him." Then Gabriel took some soil, and said, "In a place like this." And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) emerged, holding Husayn, with a downcast expression and worrying demeanor. Umm Salamah thought he was angry about the child entering him and said, "O Prophet of Allah, I would sacrifice myself for you! You told us not to weep for this child and instructed me not to let anyone enter upon you. He came, and I let him go, but you did not respond to me." He did not reply to her and went out to his companions, who were sitting, and said to them, "My community will kill this one," among them were Abu Bakr and Umar, and they were the most daring of the people towards him. They both said, "O Prophet of Allah, will they kill him while they are believers?" He said, "Yes, this is his soil," and showed them the soil.
- Abu Ya'qub Yusuf ibn Ayub ibn al-Husayn narrated to us in Merv, saying: Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Muhtadi bil-lah narrated to us, and Abu Ghalib ibn Abi Ali narrated to us, from Abd al-Samad ibn Ali, both said: Ubaydullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawi, who said: Ali ibn Muslim ibn Sa'id narrated to me, from Khalid ibn Makhlad, from Abu Muhammad Musa ibn Ya'qub ibn Abdullah ibn Wahb al-Zam'i, who narrated to me from Hashim ibn Hashim ibn Utaibah ibn Abi Waqqas, from Abdullah ibn Wahb ibn Zama'ah, who said: Umm Salamah told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) lay down one night and awoke while he was angry, then returned and fell asleep. He awoke again while he was angry, and Abu Ghalib added, then returned and awoke while he was angry. They both said, "Less than what you saw from him the first time." Then he lay down and awoke with a red soil in his hand. I said, "What is this, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Gabriel informed me that my son will be killed in the land of Iraq," referring to Husayn. This concluded the narration of Abu Ya'qub, and Abu Ghalib added, "I said to Gabriel, 'Show me some of the soil of the land where he will be killed.'" He said, "This is his soil."

Wakil was unsure, meaning Abdullah ibn Sa'id was unsure, whether the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to one of them, "A angel has entered my house who has not entered before, and he said to me, 'Your son, Hussein, is to be killed, and if you wish, I can show you the soil of the earth where he will be killed.'" She said that he then brought out the jewel of the earth to the Prophet and they said, "It is red soil."
- Umm Salamah said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was sleeping when Hussein came, crawling. She said: So I sat at the door, anticipating him, fearing he would go in and wake him. Then I became distracted for a moment, and he crawled in and sat on his belly. She said: I heard the weeping of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), so I came and said, "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not know he was here." He said: "Gabriel (peace be upon him) only came to me while he was sitting on my belly and said to me, 'Do you love him?' I said, 'Yes.' He replied, 'Your Ummah will kill him. Would you like to see the soil in which they will kill him?'" I said, "Yes." He then struck with his wing and brought this soil. I asked, "What is in his hand?" It was red soil, and he was weeping, saying, "Alas, I wonder who will kill you after me."

- He said: And I, Ibn Sa'd, narrated to us: Ali ibn Muhammad, from Uthman ibn Maqsam, from al-Maqbari, from Aisha, who said: While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was asleep, Al-Husayn came crawling to him, so I pushed him away. Then I stood up for something I needed to do, and he approached him again. He awoke, crying, and I said: What makes you cry? He said: Gabriel showed me the soil on which Al-Husayn would be killed, and the anger of Allah grew severe against those who would shed his blood. He spread his hand, and in it was a handful of dust, and he said: O Aisha, by the One in whose hand is my soul, it indeed saddens me, and it is from this that my ummah will kill Al-Husayn after me.

She said: I went to take him away, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) awoke and said: Leave him. So I left him until he was done, then he called for water and said: It is poured from the boy and washed from the girl. So they poured water over him, then he performed ablution and stood up to pray. When he stood, he held Al-Husayn to him. If he bowed or sat, he would place him down, then sit again and cry. Then he stretched out his hand, and I said when he finished the prayer: O Messenger of Allah, I saw you do something today that I have not seen you do before. - What has been reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in a manner akin to mass transmission regarding his statements about the martyrdom of his fragrant flower, Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him), in Karbala or in the land of Taff, and his weeping over him before the incident occurred, from Abdullah ibn Nuji, from his father: that he traveled with Ali ibn Abi Talib, who was his purifier's companion. When they were passing by Nineveh, while he was on his way to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, O Abu Abdullah! Be patient, O Abu Abdullah!" at the edge of the Euphrates. I asked, "Who is this, Abu Abdullah?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes, that they overflow?' He said: 'Rather, Gabriel stood up from beside me before and informed me that Husayn would be killed at the edge of the Euphrates. And he said, "Would you like me to let you smell his soil?"' I said, 'Yes.' So he extended his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me. I could not help but let my eyes overflow."

- Abu Umamah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to his wives: "Do not weep for this boy" - meaning Husayn. He said it was on the day of Umm Salamah when Gabriel descended and entered the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) who was inside, and said to Umm Salamah: "Do not let anyone enter upon me." Then Husayn came, and when he saw the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in the house, he wanted to enter, but Umm Salamah took him and embraced him, making soft sounds to him to calm him. When he began to cry more intensely, she let him go, and he entered until he sat in the lap of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then Gabriel said to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), "Your community will kill this son of yours." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied, "They will kill him while they are believers in me." Gabriel said, "Yes, they will kill him," and he took some soil and said, "In a place like this and this." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) emerged, having Husayn in his arms, with a downcast mind and worried demeanor. Umm Salamah thought he was angry about the child entering, so she said: "O Prophet of Allah, may I be your sacrifice! You told us not to weep for this boy and instructed me not to let anyone enter upon you. He came, and I let him go." But the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) did not respond to her. He went out to his companions who were sitting and said to them: "My community will kill this one," and among them were Abu Bakr and Umar, who were the boldest of the people towards him. They said: "O Prophet of Allah, will they kill him while they are believers?" He replied, "Yes, this is his soil," and he showed it to them.

I tried to move him away, but then I stood up for something I needed to do. He approached him again, and the Messenger of Allah woke up, crying. I said, "What makes you cry?" He replied, "Gabriel showed me the soil on which Hussein will be killed, and God's anger grew severe against those who shed his blood." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stretched out his hand, and in it was a handful of soil. He said, "O Aisha, by the One in whose hand is my life, it saddens me, and from this, there are those in my Ummah who will kill Hussein after me."

- From Zainab bint Jahsh, who said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was sleeping near her while Husayn was crawling in the house. She said: I became distracted and he crawled until he reached the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), climbed onto his belly, and then placed his private part in his navel and urinated. She said: Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) woke up, and I went to him and lifted him off from his belly. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Leave my son." When he finished urinating, he took a bowl of water and poured it over him, then said: "It is poured over a boy and washed from a girl." She said: Then he stood up to pray and hugged him, and whenever he bowed or prostrated, he would place him there, and when he stood, he would carry him. When he sat down, he began to pray and raise his hands, saying: "[..like this]." When he finished the prayer, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I saw you do something today that I have not seen you do before." He said: "Gabriel came to me and informed me that my son would be killed." I said, "Show me then the soil of his place of martyrdom," and he brought me red soil."

- From Umm al-Fadl bint al-Harith, who said: She entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said: O Messenger of Allah, I saw a horrifying dream involving you last night. He said: What is it? She replied: It is very concerning. He asked: What is it? She said: I saw that a piece of your body was severed and placed in my lap. She continued: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: You saw خيرًا (something good); Fatimah will, God willing, give birth to a boy, and he will be in your lap. She said: Fatimah gave birth to Husayn, and he was in my lap as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said. Then I entered one day upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and placed him in his lap. Then I happened to glance over, and I saw the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) pouring with tears. She said: I said, O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, what is the matter with you? He said: Gabriel (peace be upon him) came to me and informed me that my ummah will kill my son. I asked, Is this it? He replied: Yes, and he brought me a soil from his soil, red in color.

- Ibn Abbas said: Al-Hasan was sitting in the lap of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and Gabriel said: "Do you love him?" He replied: "And how could I not love him, for he is the fruit of my heart?" Gabriel then said: "Beware, your nation will kill him. Would you like me to show you the site of his grave?" He answered, "Yes." Then Gabriel took a handful of soil, and it was red earth. Thus, he recorded this narration in (al-Bidaya wa'l-Nihaya: Volume 6, Page 230, and he also narrated it in Majma' al-Zawa'id wa Manba' al-Fawa'id: Volume 9, Page 191) and said: "Its narrators are trustworthy."
- Abu al-Tufayl Amir ibn Wathila also narrated it, as did al-Tabarani from him with his chain of narration, saying: An angel of the heavens sought permission to greet the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) while he was in the house of Umm Salama. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to Umm Salama: "Do not let anyone enter upon us." Then Al-Husayn ibn Ali (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came and entered. Umm Salama said: "It is Al-Husayn." The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Let him be." He began to climb onto the neck of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and play with him while the angel looked on. The angel then said: "Do you love him, O Muhammad?" He replied: "Yes, by Allah, I do love him." The angel said: "Beware, your nation will kill him, and if you wish, I can show you the soil of the place where he will be killed." Saying this, he took a handful of the soil of his martyrdom. Umm Salama took the soil and kept it in her scarf, and they would see that the soil was from Karbala. He narrated this in (Majma' al-Zawa'id wa Manba' al-Fawa'id, Volume 9, Page 190, citing al-Tabarani) and said: "Its chain of narration is good."

- From Abd al-Jabbar ibn al-Abbas, who said: He heard Awn ibn Abi Jahayfa say: We were sitting near the house of Abi Abdillah al-Jadali when Malik ibn Sahhar al-Hamdani came to us and said: "Show me the house of so-and-so." We said, "Why don't you send for him, and he will come?" He replied, and we were still talking when he arrived. Ibn Sahhar said to him: "Do you remember when we were sent by Makhnif to the Commander of the Faithful while he was by the banks of the Euphrates?" He said: "Soon, a caravan from the family of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) will arrive here, passing through this place, and you will be few against them. Woe to you from them, and woe to them from you."
- From Abi Jahayfa, who said: Urwah al-Barqi came to Sa'id ibn Wahb and asked him while I was listening, saying: "Tell me about a narration you heard from Ali ibn Abi Talib." He replied: "Yes, Makhnif ibn Sulaym sent me to Ali, and I found him in Karbala, gesturing with his hand and saying: 'Here, here.'" A man said to him: "What is this, O Commander of the Faithful?" He replied: "A heavy burden upon the family of Muhammad will be placed here, and woe to them from you and woe to you from them." The man then asked: "What does this mean, your words, O Commander of the Faithful?" He said: "Woe to them from you; you will kill them, and woe to you from them; Allah will admit you to the Fire for killing them."

- Abu Ubayd al-Dhubbi narrated to us, saying: We visited Abu Hartham al-Dhubbi when he returned from Siffin, and he was with Ali. He was sitting on his workbench, and he had a wife named Jurda'a, who was deeply in love with Ali and strongly affirmed his words. Then a sheep of his came and urinated. He said to her: "The droppings of this sheep remind me of a حديث (narration) about Ali." They asked, "And what would Ali know about this?" He replied: "We were returning from Siffin, and we stopped in Karbala. Ali led us in the Fajr prayer among the small trees and thickets of harmal. Then he took a handful of the droppings of the gazelles, smelled it, and then said: 'Oh, oh! With this dung, a people will be killed who will enter Paradise without حساب (reckoning).'"
- .... From Ali, who said: "Husayn will be killed, and I know the soil of the place where he will be killed, close to the two rivers."
- .... From Ali (peace be upon him), who said: "Husayn ibn Ali will be killed, and I know the soil of the land where he will be killed. He will be killed in a village near the two rivers."

- .... Ammar al-Dahhani said: Ali (peace be upon him) passed by Ka'b and said: "A man will be killed from the descendants of this man, in a group, whose horses' sweat will not dry until they return to Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." Then Hasan (peace be upon him) passed by, and they said: "This is he, O Abu Ishaq." He replied: "No." Then Husayn (peace be upon him) passed by, and they said: "This is he." He said: "Yes."
- .... Ibn al-Jalut said: "We used to hear that a son of a Prophet would be killed in Karbala. So whenever I entered it, I would urge my horse to race until I could pass through it. But when Husayn (peace be upon him) was killed, I began to move on foot after that, at my own pace."
