770 - And what Suleiman al-Kaysani told us, saying: Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad narrated to us, (and) what al-Rabi' al-Muradi told us, saying: Asad ibn Musa narrated to us, both said: Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram narrated to us, and Shaher said: I heard Umm Salamah when the news of the martyrdom of Husayn ibn Ali came to her, and she said: "They killed him. May Allah kill them!" and "They stripped him of his clothes and humiliated him. May Allah curse them!" I saw the Messenger of Allah, Peace Be Upon Him, when Fatimah came to him in the morning with a large shallow dish she had made into a porridge, carrying it in a plate until she placed it between his hands. He then said to her: "Where is your cousin?" She replied: "He is in the house." He said: "Go and call him, and bring me your two sons." She came back leading her two sons, each one of them, and Ali was walking behind them until they entered upon the Messenger of Allah, Peace Be Upon Him. He seated them in his lap, and Ali sat on his right while Fatimah sat on his left. Umm Salamah said: Then he retrieved from beneath me a colorful cloak that had been our mat on the bed in Medina and wrapped it around the Messenger of Allah, Peace Be Upon Him, and them all. He took hold of the ends of the cloak with his left hand and raised his right hand to his Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, saying: "O Allah, remove the impurity from them and purify them with a thorough purification," three times. She said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you not one of your family?" He replied: "Indeed, I am." I said: "Then include me in the cloak." She said: I entered after he had completed his supplication for his cousin, Ali, and his two sons, and his daughter, Fatimah, Peace Be Upon Them.

Volume: (3) - Page Number: (101)
884 - Yusuf ibn Musa and Muhammad ibn Mu'mar narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Sharhabil ibn Mudrik al-Ju'fi narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Najji, from his father, that he traveled with Ali and was his companion at his place of purification. When he was parallel to Nineveh, while he was on his way to Siffin, Ali called out: "Patience, Abu Abdullah!" I said, "And what is it, Abu Abdullah?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah one day while his eyes were overflowing with tears. I said, 'O Prophet of Allah, has someone made you angry? What is the matter with your eyes?' He said: 'Yes, Gabriel stood up from my side and informed me that Hussein will be killed at the bank of the Euphrates.' I asked, 'Is there any way for you to let me smell his soil?' He said, 'Yes,' and stretched out his hand, taking a handful of soil. I could not help but my eyes overflowed with tears.'" This hadith is one that we do not know being narrated from Ali about the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) except from this source and with this chain of transmission. Ahmad said: Abdullah ibn Najji and his father heard from Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him and his holy progeny).

[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
- .... From Abdullah ibn Naji, from his father, who said: He traveled with Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and when he reached Nineveh, while he was on his way to Siffin, Ali called out: "Be patient, Abu Abdullah, be patient, Abu Abdullah, by the shore of the Euphrates." Naji said: I asked, "What is that?" He replied: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) one day, and his eyes were overflowing with tears. I asked him, and he said: 'Gabriel just rose from sitting with me and told me that Hussein will be killed by the shore of the Euphrates.'" He then said to me, "Would you like me to let you smell the fragrance of his soil?" I replied, "Yes." So he extended his hand, took a handful of soil, and gave it to me. I could not help but have my eyes overflow with tears. He then asked about that land, and it was said to be called Karbala. He said: "Grief and tribulation," and it was found that Hussein (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had thirty-three stabs and thirty-four strikes with a sword.
