- Hammad ibn Zayd said: Hamad ibn Zayd narrated to us from Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Ansari, from Ubayd ibn Hunayn from al-Husayn, who said: "I ascended the pulpit to Umar and said: 'Descend from my father's pulpit and go to my father's pulpit instead.'" Umar replied, "My father did not have a pulpit, so he seated me with him. When he descended, he said: 'O my son, who taught you this?' I said, 'No one taught me this.' He said, 'O my son, has anyone caused hair to grow on our heads except Allah, and then you all?'" He placed his hand on his head and continued, "O my son, if you made it a habit to come to us and visit us..." Its chain of narration is authentic.

He replied, "My father did not have a pulpit, and he seated me between his hands with pebbles in my hand, and I kept turning them over. When he descended, he took me to his home and said to me: 'O son, who taught you this?' I replied, 'No one taught me.' He said, 'O son, I swear you will visit us, I swear you will come to us.' So, I visited him one day while he was alone with Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) at the door, not entering. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) turned back. When I saw him turn back, I also turned back. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) met me after that and said: 'O son, I did not see you come to us.' I replied, 'I came when you were alone with Muawiyah and saw Ibn Umar turning back, so I turned back.' He said: 'You are more deserving of permission than Ibn Umar. Allah has only established what He has guided in our minds, and you are,' and he placed his hand on his head."

I replied, "O Commander of the Faithful, I came while you were alone with Mu'awiya and Ibn Umar at the door, Ibn Umar returned, and I returned with him." He said, "You are more deserving of permission than Ibn Umar, and what you see growing in our heads is from Allah and then from you." Al-Khatib narrated this with a sound chain of transmission to Yahya.
