Abu Talib (peace be on him) is a sponsor and helper of Holy Prophet (peace be on him and his progeny)

Hadith No: 1

Narrated Al-Abbas bin `Abdul Muttalib:

That he said to the Prophet (s.a.w.a.) "You have not been of any avail to your uncle (Abu Talib) (though) by Allah, he used to protect you and used to become angry on your behalf." The Prophet (s.a.w.a.) said, "He is in a shallow fire, and had It not been for me, he would have been in the bottom of the (Hell) Fire."

- His statement: (He used to protect you) with the letter ha' (ح) pronounced with a short 'a,' indicating guarding or safeguarding, and this subtly hints at what Ibn Ishaq mentioned, saying: "Then both Khadijah and Abu Talib died in the same year, three years before the Hijrah. Khadijah was for him a minister of truth in Islam, to whom he could find solace, and Abu Talib was for him an ally and support against his people. So when Abu Talib died, Quraysh inflicted upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) harm that they had not dared to do during the lifetime of Abu Talib, even to the extent that a fool from among the fools of Quraysh confronted him and poured dirt on his head." And Hisham ibn Urwah narrated to me from his father, saying: "So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered his house, saying: 'Quraysh did not seek to harm me in anything I disliked until Abu Talib died.'"

And Abd al-Razzaq said: Sufyan narrated to us from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from someone who heard Ibn Abbas regarding God's statement, Almighty and Glorious be He: {And they prohibit [others] from it and avoid it themselves} (Surah al-An'am 6:26), that he said: It was revealed about Abu Talib. He used to forbid [others] from harming the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and avoid what he brought.

- .... Ibn Ishaq said: Then Khadijah and Abu Talib both passed away in the same year, and hardships began to inflict the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with the death of Khadijah. She had been a trustworthy companion for him in times of trial, to whom he could find solace, and with the death of his uncle Abu Talib, he lost a supporter, protector in his affairs, and a defender against his people. This was three years before his migration to Medina. When Abu Talib died, the Quraysh began to afflict the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with hardships that they had not dared to impose during the life of Abu Talib, even daring to confront him, a fool from the fools of the Quraysh, who scattered dust on his head. Hisham ibn Urwah told me from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) entered his home with dust on his head, and one of his daughters stood up to him, washing it off and crying, while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "Do not weep, my daughter, for Allah will protect your father," and he added amidst this: "The Quraysh did not obtain anything from me that I disliked until Abu Talib died."

This is a sahih hadith according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and they did not narrate it.

Mentioning Abu Talib and the way the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) embraced him and his departure with him to Syria on the first occasion

- He said: Muhammad ibn Umar narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Salih, Abdullah ibn Ja'far, and Ibrahim ibn Isma'il ibn Abi Habibah narrated to me from Dawud ibn al-Hasin, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) reached twelve years of age, Abu Talib took him to Syria in the caravan that he had set out in for trade, and they stayed with the monk Bahira. Bahira said to Abu Talib about the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) what he said and instructed him to be cautious with him. Abu Talib returned with him to Mecca. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) grew up with Abu Talib, and Allah watched over him, protected him, and surrounded him from the matters and flaws of ignorance, as He intended for him with honor, while he was on the religion of his people until he reached the point of being a man, the best of his people in dignity, the finest in character, the most generous in companionship, the best in neighborliness, the greatest in forbearance, trustworthiness, the most truthful in speech, and the furthest from vulgarity and harm. No one ever saw him engaged in argument or quarreling with anyone until his people named him al-Amīn (the Trustworthy) because of the good qualities that Allah had gathered for him. Indeed, the prevailing role in Mecca was that of al-Amīn, and Abu Talib would protect him, watch over him, support him, and help him until he died.
