- .... {And your movement among those who prostrate (ash-Shu'ara: 219)} They said: So, it could imply the interpretations mentioned and it could be understood that what is meant is that He, the Exalted, moved his spirit from one prostrator to another, as we say. If all these interpretations are possible, then the verse must be understood to encompass them all, since there is no contradiction or preference. And with his statement, peace be upon him and his holy progeny: I have always moved from the loins of the pure to the wombs of the pure. Anyone who is a disbeliever is impure, due to His statement, exalted be He: {Indeed, the polytheists are unclean (At-Tawbah: 28)}.

- .... And his statement: {And your turning (taqallubaka) among those who prostrate (sājidīn) (al-Shu'ara: 219)} means when you pray in congregation And Ibn ʿAbbās conveyed its meaning, saying: He brought him out from the loins of one prophet to the loins of another prophet to the loins of another prophet, continuing like this until He made him a prophet. This is the meaning of turning (taqallub), and the prostrating ones (sājidun) are the prophets (ʿalayhim al-salām).

- .... The second position: That no polytheism was established from either of them, but they were on the Hanifiyyah, the religion of their grandfather Ibrahim (peace be upon him), just as Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl and his peers were in ignorance. This position was inclined toward by Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi (may he be rewarded), who added that all the fathers of (peace be upon him) were unified in belief up to Adam. He stated in his book (Asrar al-Tanzil) the following: It is said that Azar was not the father of Ibrahim but his uncle, and they argued this with several points, including: that the ancestors of the prophets were not disbelievers. This is supported by several indications, one of which is His (Exalted be He) statement: {Indeed, those who see you turning your face in the sky, We will turn you to a Qiblah that will please you} (Surah al-Baqarah 2:144). It was said that this means: he was transferring his light from one prostrator to another, and with this understanding, the verse indicates that all the fathers of Muhammad (peace be upon him) were Muslims. Therefore, it must be concluded that the father of Ibrahim was not among the disbelievers; he was, rather, his uncle. The most that can be said in this regard is that His statement: {and your turning among those who prostrate} (2:144) could be understood in other ways. If narrations come mentioning all of them with no contradiction among them, the verse must be understood in this broader sense. Whenever this is established, it confirms that the father of Ibrahim was not among the worshippers of idols. He also mentioned that the ancestors of Muhammad (peace be upon him) were not polytheists, stating (peace be upon him): "I have always transferred from the loins of the pure to the wombs of the pure." And Allah, the Exalted, said: {Indeed, the polytheists are impure} (Surah At-Tawbah 9:28), so it must be that none of his (peace be upon him) ancestors were polytheists.

- .... And from Ibn Abbas (may he be pleased with him) regarding Allah's statement, Mighty and Majestic be He: {And your movement among those who prostrate (Surah Ash-Shu'ara, 26:219)} he said: from one prophet to another until a prophet is brought forth. That is, he found prophets among his ancestors, and it will come that he was cast into the loins of Adam, then in the loins of Noah, then in the loins of Ibrahim (peace be upon them) as evidence will be presented later. In another narration from him, it states that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) continued to move among the loins of the prophets, either those mentioned or others, until his mother gave birth to him. This, as is evident, does not contradict the occurrence of one who is not a prophet in his ancestors, as the intention is the presence of prophets (peace be upon them) in his lineage (peace be upon him), knowing that it is a necessity that not all his ancestors were prophets. However, others said: His light (peace be upon him) continued to be transferred from one who prostrates to another.
