8342 - Qutaybah ibn Sa'id and Hisham ibn Ammar both narrated to us, saying: Hatim narrated to us from Bukayr ibn Musmar, from Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: Muawiya commanded Sa'd and said: "What prevented you from insulting Abu Turab?" He replied: "As for the three things you mentioned, which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, I will not insult him, for having one of them be dearer to me than red camels is better. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say to him, while he was behind him in one of the battles, and Ali said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, are you leaving me with the women and children?' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: 'Are you not pleased to be to me like Aaron was to Moses, except that there is no prophethood after me?'" And I heard him say on the day of Khaybar: "I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and is loved by Allah and His Messenger." So we all stretched out our hands for it. He said: "Call me Ali." Ali was brought to him, with sore eyes, and he spat in his eyes and gave him the banner. And when the following was revealed, Hisham added: {“Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's Household, and to purify you with a thorough purification”} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and said: “O Allah, these are my family.”

Volume: (7) - Page Number: (417)
8355 - Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, who said: Yahya ibn Hammad narrated to us, who said: al-Wadhah narrated to us, he is Abu Uawana, who said: Yahya narrated to us, who said: Amr ibn Maymun narrated to us, that I was sitting with Ibn Abbas when nine men came to him and said: "Will you either stand with us or leave us alone, O you three?" He was in good health that day, before he became blind. He replied: "I will stand with you," and you may talk, but I do not know what they said. Then he came back, shaking off his garment and saying: "Disgrace and outrage! They are speaking ill of a man who has ten (virtues). They are speaking ill of a man about whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: 'I will surely send a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah will never humiliate him.'" So, he looked over those who were looking and said: "Where is Ali? He is in the mill, grinding." And none of you would have ground (grain). So, he called him while he was suffering from eye inflammation, hardly able to see. He then breathed into his eyes and shook the banner three times, handing it to him. Ali came with Safiyyah, the daughter of Huyy, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) sent Abu Bakr with a chapter from Surah At-Tawbah and sent Ali behind him to take it from him, saying: "No one will take it except a man who is from me and I am from him." And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Hassan, Hussein, Ali, and Fatimah and covered them with a cloak, saying: "O Allah, these are my family. Remove from them any impurity and purify them completely."....

11 - Qutaybah ibn Sa'id and Hisham ibn Ammar al-Dimashqi narrated to us, both saying: Hatem narrated to us from Bukayr ibn Musmar from Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: Muawiya commanded Sa'd and said: "What prevents you from insulting Abu Turab?" He replied: "I remembered three things that the Messenger of Allah (ص) said, so I will not insult him. For one of them to be dearer to me than red camels is enough." I heard the Messenger of Allah (ص) say to him, leaving him behind in some of the military expeditions: Ali said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, will you leave me with the women and children?" The Messenger of Allah (ص) replied: "Are you not satisfied to be to me like Harun was to Musa, except that there is no prophecy after me?" And I heard him say on the Day of Khaybar: "Tomorrow I will give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love." So we all hoped for it, and he said: "Call Ali." He was brought to him, having sore eyes, and he (the Prophet) spat in his eyes and gave him the banner. And when the verse was revealed: {Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove from you, O people of the Prophet's household, uncleanness and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33), the Messenger of Allah (ص) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and said: "O Allah, these are my household."
