4763 - Abu al-Hasan Isma'il ibn Muhammad ibn al-Fadl ibn Muhammad al-Sharani narrated to me, saying: My grandfather narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Shaybah al-Hizammi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn Abi Fudayk narrated to me, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr al-Maliki, from Isma'il ibn Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, from his father, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) looked at mercy descending, he said, "Call her to me, call her to me."
Then Safiyyah said, "Who, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "The أهل بيتي (People of My House): Ali, Fatimah, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn." So they were brought to him, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) threw his cloak over them and then raised his hands, saying, "O Allah, these are my family. Bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." And Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed the verse:
{Indeed, Allah wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification.} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33). This is a hadith with a sound chain of narration, but they did not include it in their collections. It has been reliably narrated that he taught them how to pray for the people of his house just as he taught them to pray for his holy progeny.
