And His saying: {And establish prayer and give zakah} means: And establish the obligatory prayers and give the obligatory zakah on your wealth, and obey Allah and His Messenger in what He commands you and forbids you.
{Indeed, Allah only intends to remove the impurity from you, O inhabitants of the Prophet's household,}
means: Allah only wants to remove evil and immorality from you, O people of Muhammad's household, and to purify you.

- Abu Kuraib narrated to me, saying: Waki' narrated to us, from Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Fudayl ibn Marzuk, from Atiyyah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
from Umm Salamah, who said: When this verse was revealed: {Indeed, Allah only intends to remove the impurity from you, O inhabitants of the Prophet's household, and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Al-Ahzab 33:33),
the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn and covered them with a Khaybari cloak, and said: O Allah, these are the people of my household. O Allah, remove the impurity from them and purify them with a thorough purification. Umm Salamah said: "Are you not one of them?" He replied: "You are to good."
