Volume: (2) - Page Number: (336)
2155 - Ahmad ibn Zuhair narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Yahya al-Sufi narrated to us, saying: Isma'il ibn Aban al-Warraq narrated to us, saying: Salam ibn Abi Umrah narrated to us from Ma'ruf ibn Kharbadh from Abu al-Tufayl, who said: Al-Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib delivered a sermon, in which he praised and extolled Allah, mentioned the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (peace be upon him), the Seal of the Successors, the Appointee of the Seal of the Prophets, the Trustworthy of the Truthful and the Martyrs, and then said: O people, a man has left you who was neither preceded by those before him nor will be attained by those after him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) used to give him the banner, and he would fight while Gabriel was on his right and Michael on his left. He would not return until Allah opened [victories] for him. And indeed, Allah took him in the night in which He took the Appointee of Moses and ascended with his spirit in the night in which He ascended with the spirit of Jesus, son of Mary. And in the night that Allah, the Almighty, revealed the Criterion. By Allah, he left neither gold nor silver nor anything to be inherited, and what was in his treasury was only seven hundred dirhams and fifty dirhams that remained from his gifts. He had wanted to use them to buy a servant for Umm Kulthum. Then he said: Whoever knows me, knows me, and whoever does not know me, I am al-Hasan ibn Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Then he recited this verse, the words of Joseph: {And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac and Jacob} (Quran 12:38). Then he continued in the Book of Allah, saying: I am the son of the bearer of good news, I am the son of the warner, I am the son of the Prophet, I am the son of the one who invites to Allah by His permission, I am the son of the lamp giving light, I am the son of the one who was sent as a mercy to the worlds
I am from the Ahl al-Bayt from whom Allah has removed impurity and made pure with [complete] purification, I am from the Ahl al-Bayt whose love and authority Allah, the Almighty, has made obligatory, and He said in what He revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): {Say, "I do not ask of you any reward for it except for love of [my] near relatives"} (Quran 42:23). This hadith was not narrated from Abu al-Tufayl except by Ma'ruf ibn Kharbadh, nor from Ma'ruf except by Salam ibn Abi Umrah. Isma'il ibn Aban was unique in this.
