They deceived him and humiliated him. May God curse them." Fatima came to him, bringing her two sons, carrying them until she placed them between his hands. He said to her, 'Where is your cousin?' She replied, 'He is in the house.' He said, 'Go and call him, and bring me your sons.' So she came back, leading her two sons, each one by the hand, and Ali walked behind them until they entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He sat them in his lap, and Ali sat on his right, while Fatima sat on his left. Um Salama said: Then he took from beneath me a cloak that was our prayer mat, and wrapped it around him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) took hold of the ends of the cloak in his left hand, raised his right hand to his Lord, Almighty and Exalted, and said: "O Allah, these are my family and my supporters. Remove from them all impurity and purify them thoroughly," three times, each time saying: "O Allah, remove from them all impurity and purify them thoroughly." Then I said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you not one of the family?" He replied, "Yes, but go and join them in the cloak...." He gathered the cloak over them and then said, 'These are my family and my protectors. Remove from them all impurity and purify them thoroughly.'" Um Salama said: So I said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you not from the people of the house?" He replied, "You are upon goodness and will return to goodness."

She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) commanded me to send for Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn, so I sent for them. When they came to him, he embraced Ali with his right arm, Hasan with his left, Husayn on his lap, and Fatimah at his feet. Then he said: "O Allah, these are my family and my descendants. Remove the impurity from them and make them pure and sinless." He said this three times. I said, "What about me, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You are on what is good, if Allah wills."

She went and brought him. They all ate together. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) took a cloak and draped it over them, holding its ends with his left hand. Then he raised his right hand to the sky and said: "O Allah, these are the People of My House and my protection. O Allah, remove the impurity from them and make them pure and sinless. Thus, in the original it states Aqrab, which is an error; it should be 'Umrah.
- He narrated to us from above, saying: Ali al-Sab' was the correct one, Abu Abd Allah al-Khallal narrated to me, saying: Abu al-Qasim al-Sulami narrated to me, saying: Abu Bakr ibn al-Muqri narrated to us, saying: Abu Muhammad Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah, the Imam's nephew in Halab, narrated to us, from Ibrahim ibn Sa'id al-Jawhari, from Husayn, meaning al-Marzuki, from Sulayman ibn Qarm, from Abd al-Jabbar ibn al-Abbas, from Ammar al-Dahhani, from 'Umrah from Umm Salamah, who said: "This verse was revealed in my house": { "Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification" (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33) } and in the house were seven: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), Jibril, Mikail, Ali, Fatimah, Hassan, and Husayn. This 'Umrah is not the daughter of Abd al-Rahman; rather, she is 'Umrah, the daughter of a Kufi female serpent.

I saw him when he had him, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn under his cloak, and then he said: "O Allah, these are the People of my House. O Allah, remove from them uncleanness and purify them with a thorough purification." She said: Then I went to join them, but he pushed me away. Ibn Asakir - Tarikh Damishq (History of Damascus) - Those Named by Their Kunya - 8632: Abu Amir al-Ruhbi al-Homsi

- Abu Muhammad Ibn al-Akfani narrated to us, saying: Abdul Aziz al-Kattani narrated to us verbally, and Abu Abdullah Ibn Abi al-Alā and Abu Muhammad Ibn Saber informed us, both saying: Abu al-Qasim Ibn Abi al-Alā narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Musa ibn al-Husayn informed us, who said: Abu Sulayman Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Zubar narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Umayr ibn Jawsa narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Uthman narrated to us, saying: al-Harith ibn Ubaydah narrated to us, from al-‘Ala ibn Utbah al-Yahsubi, from a man from al-Ruhbah, meaning Abu Amir, that he sat in a circle in Damascus in which Wathilah ibn al-Asq'a al-Laythi was present. He addressed the people and mentioned a narration regarding the actions of the Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House), and in the account of al-Akfani from Abu Amir, it is stated that he sat in a circle in Damascus with Wathilah ibn al-Asq'a al-Laythi, teaching the people. When he intended to leave, they began to speak maliciously of Ali ibn Abi Talib until it reached that man, who was the last to want to stand. Wathilah took his hand and seated him, saying: "Do you know Ali? Have you seen him?" He replied: "No." Wathilah said: "Would you like me to tell you about Ali ibn Abi Talib?" He answered: "Yes." Wathilah continued: "I went to Ali to seek him in his home, but I did not find him. Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), responded to me and said: 'Whom do you seek?' I said: 'I seek Abu al-Hasan.' She replied: 'He will come to you shortly from this direction.'" He said: So Ali came, with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) alongside him, leaning on him, and they entered upon Fatimah, and Hasan and Husayn. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called for a cloak and covered them with it, and then said: "O Allah, these are my family!": {Indeed, Allah intends to remove from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, any uncleanliness and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah al-Ahzab 33:33).
- I read this to Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Asad ibn Ammar, who narrated from Abdul Aziz ibn Ahmad, and Abu al-Husayn Abdullah ibn Amr ibn Mu'adh al-Ansi, the imam in Darayya, narrated to me, saying: Ahmad ibn Sulayman ibn Ayyub ibn Hadhlam narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Ma'lay narrated to us, from Abu al-Qasim Abdullah ibn Abdul Jabbar al-Khuba'iri, who said: al-Harith ibn Ubaydah narrated to me, from al-‘Ala ibn Utbah al-Yahsubi, from Abu Amir, who said: "I sat in a circle in Damascus in which Wathilah ibn al-Asq'a, a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), was present, and they spoke ill of Ali, insulting and belittling him. When the circle dispersed, I began to anticipate something about Ali, and Wathilah said to me: 'Have you seen Ali?' I replied: 'No.' He asked: 'Why did you not speak about him?' I said: 'Because I heard these people speaking ill of him.' He said: 'Shall I not tell you about Ali?' I said: 'Yes.' He continued: 'I went to his house and knocked on the door. Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), responded to me and said: "Who is it?" I replied: "Wathilah." She asked: "What do you want?" I said: "I wanted Abu al-Hasan." She said: "Wait a moment, and he will come to you soon."' So I waited, and then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) came, leaning on Ali, and we greeted them. When they entered the house, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Fatimah with a cloak and tucked his head under it, as well as the heads of Fatimah, Ali, Hasan, and Husayn. Then he said: "O Allah, these are my family!" three times, and then said: {Indeed, Allah intends to remove from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, any uncleanliness and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah al-Ahzab 33:33). And I said from outside: "And I am from your family." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) replied: "And you are from my family. By Allah, I do not hope for anything other than this."

When they intended to disperse, they began to criticize Ali until this reached the man, who was the last to want to stand up. Wathilah took hold of him by his cloak and sat him back down, saying: Do you know Ali? Have you seen him? He replied: No. Wathilah said: Would you like me to tell you about Ali? He said: Yes. Wathilah continued: I went to Ali seeking him in his home, but I did not find him. Then Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), responded to me and said: Who are you looking for? I said: Abu Hasan. She said: He will come to you shortly from this direction. He said: Then Ali came, and the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was with him, leaning on him. They entered upon Fatimah, and (her sons) Hasan and Husayn. Then he called for a cloak and covered them with it. Then he said: O Allah, these are my family. Then he recited: {Indeed, Allah intends to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah al-Ahzab 33:33). I said, O Messenger of Allah, and me as well, so make me one of your family. He replied: And you. I said: By Allah, I have nothing more hopeful than this.

So she brought them, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) threw over them a cloak that was under him, a Khaybari cloak we had obtained from Khaybar. The narration of Umm Salamah was in the form of a report from Ata - from whoever he heard it from - and from Abi Layla and Shahr ibn Hawshab, regarding the revelation of the verse of purification in relation to Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them all).
