Then the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) called for Hasan and Husayn and seated each of them on his thigh, bringing Fatimah close to his lap and her husband, and then he wrapped them in his cloak while I watched, saying: {Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33). He said: "Shall I not tell you what I saw from the Messenger of Allah?" I said: "Yes." He said: "I went to Fatimah to ask her about Ali, and she said, 'He has gone to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh).' So I sat down to wait for him until the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) came, accompanied by Ali, Hasan, and Husayn, each holding his hand. They entered, and the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) brought Ali and Fatimah close, seating them between him and then placing Hasan and Husayn, one on each of his thighs. Then he wrapped them all in his cloak or shawl and recited this verse: {Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33). Hasan came and he seated him on his right thigh, then Husayn came and he seated him on his left thigh, kissing them both. Then Fatimah came and he seated her between his hands, and he called for Ali, covering them with a Khaybari cloak. I feel like I can see it. Then he said: {Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33). I said to Wathila: "What is the impurity?" He replied: "Doubt in the religion of Allah."
- From Shu'dad Abu Ammar from Wathila ibn al-Asqa', who said: I went to the house of Ali ibn Abi Talib seeking him, and Fatimah said: "He has gone to get the Messenger of Allah (pbuh)." Then the Prophet (pbuh) came, and they both entered the house, and I entered with them. The Prophet sat on the bed, Ali sat on his right, Fatimah on his left, and Hasan and Husayn between his hands. Then he took a cloak and spread it over them, and said: {Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33). And I saw Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), come to him in the morning with a pot she had made in which was a thick dish, carrying it in a plate until she placed it between his hands. He said to her: "Where is your cousin?" She replied: "He is in the house." He said: "Go and call him, and bring me his two sons." So she came back, leading her two sons, each holding one of her hands, and Ali was walking behind them, following her, until they entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he seated them in his lap, while Ali sat on his right and Fatimah on his left. He then took from beneath him a cloak made of Khaybar fabric, which was a blanket for us on the roof of the mosque in Medina, and wrapped it around them all. He took hold of the ends of the cloak with his left hand and raised his right hand to his Lord, saying: "O Allah, these are my family. Remove the impurity from them and purify them thoroughly," and he repeated this three times. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, are you not one of your family?" We said: "Yes, O Mother of the Believers." She said: "I brought food to the Messenger of Allah, and he was pleased with it, and said: 'If only Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Hussein were here.'" So we sent for them, and they came. I brought forth the food, and when we had finished, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) began to call upon them and took a cloak that was beneath me, which we had obtained from Khaybar, and he draped it over Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Hussein, while saying: { "Indeed, Allah intends to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to purify you with a thorough purification" } (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33).
