- .... And he said when this was revealed: {Indeed, Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's Household, and to make you pure and spotless} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33) "O Allah, these are the People of My House; so remove the impurity from them." If you ask: Who are the descendants (itrati) that the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) meant with this statement? I would answer: Himself, his two sons, and in reality, the essence is himself because his sons are followers of him, and their relation to him in his presence is like the relation of the luminous stars to the rising, shining sun.

- .... Al-Mada'ini said: And when Ali (peace be upon him) passed away, Abdullah ibn Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib went out to the people and said: "Indeed, the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) has passed away, leaving behind successors. If you wish, their appointed leader will come out to you, and if you do not wish it, then no one is over anyone." The people wept and said: "No, let him come out to us." So Hasan (peace be upon him) came out and addressed them, saying: "O people, fear God, for we are your leaders and protectors, and we are the Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House) concerning whom Allah, the Exalted, said::{ Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the House, and to make you pure and spotless} (Surah Al-Ahzab 33:33)." So the people pledged allegiance to him.

- .... Then he said: O people, whoever knows me has already known me, and whoever does not know me, I am al-Hasan ibn Muhammad Rasulullah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). I am the son of the bearer of good tidings, I am the son of the warner, I am the son of the one who invites to Allah by His permission and the illuminating lamp. I am from the Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House) from whom Allah has removed impurity and made them pure, and for whom Allah has made love obligatory in His Book.
