697 - Abu Sa'id al-Nasruwi narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ja'far al-Qutay'i narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to me, saying: My father narrated to us, saying: Ibn Numayr narrated to us, saying: Abdul-Malik
narrated from Ata ibn Abi Rabah, who said: Someone who heard Umm Salamah mention that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was in her house, and Fatimah (peace be upon her and her holy progeny) came to him with a large pot containing stew. She entered and brought it to him, and he said to her: "Call your husband and your two sons for me." She said that Ali, Hasan, and Husayn came, and they entered, sat down, and began to eat from that stew while he was on a mat, which was beneath a striped cloak. She said: And I was in the room praying, and then Allah, the Exalted, revealed this verse: {Allah only wishes to remove the impurity from you, O People of the Prophet's House, and to make you pure and spotless} (Surah al-Ahzab 33:33).
She said: Then he took the edge of the cloak and covered them with it, and he then raised his hands and directed them to the sky, saying: "O Allah, these are the People of my House and my special ones. So, remove the impurity from them and make them pure and spotless." She said: I then poked my head into the room and said: "Am I not with you, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "You are indeed to goodness, you are indeed to goodness."
