Shu'bah informed us, Abdul Malik told me, saying: I heard Tawus say: A man asked Ibn Abbas the meaning of His statement, the Exalted, about what is said in Surah Ash-Shura (42:23): {Say, "I do not ask of you any reward for it except for love of [my]近亲":{"s":true}|close relatives"}. Sa'id ibn Jubayr said: Relatives of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). Ibn Abbas said: You are hastening, for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) did not belong to any tribe of the Quraysh except that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had relatives among them, and this was revealed: {Say, "I do not ask of you any reward for it except for love of [my] close relatives"} (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23), unless you connect it to the relations between us.

Narrated Tawus:

Ibn 'Abbas was asked about this Ayah: Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this except to be kind for my kinship with you (42:23)." So Sa'eed bin Jubair said: 'To be kind to the family of Muhammad.' Ibn 'Abbas replied: 'You know that there was no family of the Quraish except that the Messenger of Allah (S) had some relatives among them.' He said: 'Except that you should uphold ties of kinship that exist between me and you.'"
