11326 - Ibn Abbas said: When the verse was revealed: {Say, "I do not ask of you a reward for it except for friendship in relation to kinship" (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23)} they said, "O Messenger of Allah, who are these relatives of yours whose love has become obligatory upon us?" He replied, "Ali, Fatimah, and their two sons." Al-Tabarani narrated this from the narration of Harb ibn al-Hasan al-Tehkan from Husayn al-Ashqar from Qais ibn al-Rabi', and all of them were trustworthy, although a group did consider them weak. The rest of its narrators are trustworthy.

14798 - From Abu al-Tufayl, who said: Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib delivered a sermon to us, praising and extolling Allah, mentioning the Commander of the Faithful, Ali (ra), the Seal of the Well-Chosen Ones, the Testament of the Prophets, the Trustworthy One of the Truthful and the Martyrs. He then said: O people, a man has departed from you whom neither the earlier ones could precede nor the later ones could ever attain. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) used to give him the banner, and he would fight while Gabriel was on his right and Michael on his left, and he would not return until Allah opened (victory) for him. Indeed, Allah took him in the night in which He took the successor of Moses, and His spirit ascended in the night in which it ascended with the spirit of Jesus, son of Mary. And on the night when Allah, the Exalted and Mighty, revealed the Criterion. By Allah, he left neither gold nor silver, and there were in his Treasury only seven hundred and fifty dirhams that remained from his allotments, which he intended to use to buy a servant for Umm Kulthum. Then he said: Whoever knows me has known me, and whoever does not know me, I am Hasan ibn Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He then recited this verse from the words of Joseph: {And I have followed the religion of my fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob} (Joseph 12:38). He then continued with the Book of Allah, saying: I am the son of the bringer of good news, I am the son of the warner, I am the son of the Prophet, I am the son of the one who invites to Allah by His permission, I am the son of the lamp giving light, I am the son of the one who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, and I am from the Household from which Allah has removed impurity and made pure with a thorough purification. And I am from the Household to whom Allah, the Exalted and Mighty, has made obedience and authority obligatory, and He said concerning what was revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): {Say, "I do not ask you for it any reward, except for the love in kinship" } (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23).
- .... Then he said: I am the son of the bringer of good news, I am the son of the warner, I am the son of the Prophet, I am the son of the one who invites to Allah by His permission, I am the son of the lamp giving light, I am the son of the one who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, and I am from the Household from which Allah has removed impurity and made pure with a thorough purification. And in another narration, it mentions the killing of Joshua ibn Nun, the young man of Moses. This was narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Awsat and al-Kabir, briefly, though he said it was on the night of the twenty-seventh of Ramadan. And Abi Ya'la narrated it briefly, and al-Bazzar similarly, though he said he would give him the banner, and when the battle heated, he would fight while Gabriel was on his right and said: it was on the twenty-first of Ramadan. Ahmad also narrated it with considerable brevity, and the chain of Ahmad and some of the routes of al-Bazzar and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir are sound.

14982 - Ibn Abbas said: When the verse was revealed: {Say, "I do not ask of you a reward for it except for the affection in my near relatives" (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23)} they said, "O Messenger of Allah, who are these near relatives of yours whose affection has become obligatory upon us?" He replied, "Ali, Fatimah, and their two sons." This was narrated by al-Tabarani, and there were a number of weak narrators in it, though they have been deemed trustworthy.
