Part One: Regarding What Was Said in Mentioning Kinship in a General and Summary Manner
His sermon on the day his father, Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), was killed
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (138)
[The text is lengthy, so only the relevant excerpt is provided here]
- .... Zaid ibn al-Hasan said: Al-Hasan addressed the people when Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was killed. He praised Allah and extolled Him, and then said: A man was taken in death on this night who was neither preceded by those before him nor will be succeeded by those after him. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) would give him his banner, and he would fight while Gabriel was on his right and Michael on his left. He would not return until Allah opened [victory] for him. He left behind nothing on the surface of the earth, neither gold nor silver, except for seven hundred dirhams that were left over from his provision, which he intended to use to buy a servant for his family. Then he said: O people, whoever knows me knows me, and whoever does not know me, I am Al-Hasan, the son of Ali. I am the son of the Wasi (Appointee). I am the son of the Bashir (Bringer of Good News). I am the son of the Nazir (Warner). I am the son of the one who invites to Allah by His permission and the shining lamp. I am from the Ahl al-Bayt (People of the House) from whom Allah has removed impurity and purified them thoroughly. I am from the Ahl al-Bayt whose محبت (love) Allah has made obligatory upon every Muslim. Then Allah, the Exalted, said to His Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): {“Say, ‘I do not ask of you any reward for it except محبت (love) for my near relatives,’ and whoever performs a good deed - We will increase for him in it a good reward”} (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23). Thus, performing a good deed is محبتنا (our love), the Ahl al-Bayt. This was reported by al-Dulabi.
