Volume: (6) - Page Number: (49)
5758 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hadrami narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Marzuq narrated to us, saying: Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Ashqar narrated to us, from Nasir ibn Ziyad, from Uthman Abu al-Yaqzan, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: The Ansar said among themselves: "What if we gathered some wealth for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and he could extend his hand without anyone standing between him and it?" So they said, "O Messenger of Allah, we wanted to gather for you from our wealth."
Then Allah, the Almighty, revealed: {Say, "I do not ask you for it any reward, except for love in [for] my near relatives"} (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23). So they went out, differing, and some said, "Did you not see what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said?"
And some of them said, "He only said this so that we could fight for the people of his household and support them." Then Allah, the Almighty, revealed: {Or do they say, "He has invented a lie against Allah"?} (Surah Ash-Shura 42:24), up to His words: {And He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants} (Surah Ash-Shura 42:25). He hinted to them about repentance, up to His statement: {And He will respond to those who have believed and done righteous deeds and increase them from His bounty} (Surah Ash-Shura 42:26). They are the ones who said this, that they should repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness. This hadith was not narrated from Uthman Abu al-Yaqzan except by Nasir ibn Ziyad, and Husayn al-Ashqar was unique in it.
