Hadith No: 2
Ibn Sa'd - al-Tabaqat al-Kubra - Mentioning Those to Whom the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) Belonged
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (24)
- He said: Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us, saying: Dawud
narrated to us from al-Sha'bi, who said: "They insisted on us regarding this verse: {Say, 'I do not ask of you a reward for it except the affection in kinship}' (Surah Ash-Shura 42:23). So he wrote to Ibn Abbas, and Ibn Abbas replied: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was of the most honored lineage in Quraysh. There was no tribe in Quraysh except that they would have conceived him.
Then Allah, blessed and exalted be He, said, 'Say, I do not ask you for a reward for what I am inviting you to, except for the affection you show me for my family and your protection of me in that.'"
