- .... Al-Hakim narrated and authenticated it, as did Ibn Marduyah and Abu Na'im in al-Dala'il, from Jabir, who said: Al-Aqib and al-Sayyid came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he called them to Islam. They said, "We have embraced Islam, O Muhammad." He said, "You have lied. If you wish, I can tell you what will prevent you from Islam." They replied, "Then tell us." He said, "Love of the cross, drinking wine, and eating the flesh of pigs." Jabir said: He then invited them to the Mubahalah (mutual imprecation), and they agreed to meet the next day. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) went in the morning, taking Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn by the hand, and then he sent for them. However, they both refused to answer him and acknowledged him. He said, "By the One who sent me with the truth, if they had done so, the valley would have rained fire upon them." Jabir said: This was revealed concerning them: {So say, "Come, let us call our sons" (Aal Imran 3:61)}. Jabir then narrated: {and ourselves} (Aal Imran 3:61)} was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and Ali (peace be upon him), and {our sons} (Aal Imran 3:61)} were Hasan and Husayn (peace be upon them), and {our women} (Aal Imran 3:61)} was Fatimah (peace be upon her).
- .... Muslim, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Mundhir, al-Hakim, and al-Bayhaqi narrated from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: When this verse was revealed: {So say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves" (Aal Imran 3:61)}, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them) and said, "O Allah, these are my family."
