- .... Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I have mentioned some of the virtues of the Commander of the Faithful, Ali ibn Abi Talib, and Fatimah, and Hassan and Hussein (peace be upon them), as much as I could recall mentioning in Mecca, may Allah increase its honor, and their virtues are numerous and great. I will mention the merits of the Ahl al-Bayt in general, those whom Allah, the Exalted, mentioned in His Book in several places and commanded His Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) to present them in a challenge (mubahalah). He, glorified be His mention, said: {“So say, ‘Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves; then let us earnestly plead (mubahalah) with one another’”} (Aal Imran 3:61). And they are: Ali, Fatimah, Hassan, and Hussein (peace be upon them).....

1690 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Dawud al-Sijistani narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Hatim al-Askarī narrated to us, saying: Bishr ibn Mehran narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Dinar narrated to us, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from al-Shu'bi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: A delegation from Najran came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), consisting of al-Aqib and al-Tayyib. He invited them to Islam, and they said, "We have already accepted Islam, O Muhammad, before you." He said, "You have both lied. If you wish, I can inform you of what will prevent you from Islam." They said, "Tell us." He replied, "The love of the cross, the drinking of wine, and the eating of pig's flesh. There will be no wealth or life." Then he invited them to a mubahala (mutual cursing), and they promised to meet him the next morning. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) went out in the morning, taking the hands of Ali, Fatimah, and Hasan and Husayn (peace be upon them), and then sent for them, but they refused to come and acknowledged him with a tribute. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "By the One who sent me with the truth, if they had acted, the valley would have rained fire upon them." Jabir said: This verse was revealed about them: {So say, 'Come, let us call our children and your children, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves' } (Surah Al-Imran 3:61). Al-Shu'bi said: {Our children and your children} (Surah Al-Imran 3:61) refers to Hasan and Husayn (peace be upon them), {our women and your women} (Surah Al-Imran 3:61) refers to Fatimah (peace be upon her), {ourselves and yourselves} (Surah Al-Imran 3:61) refers to Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him).

1691 - And Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Juzzi narrated to us, saying: Yusuf ibn Musa al-Qattan narrated to us, saying: Ubaydullah ibn Musa narrated to us, saying: Abu Hamzah al-Thumali narrated to us from Shahru ibn Hawshab, who said: Al-Masih (the Messiah) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) accompanied by al-Aqib and his brother Qais, along with his son Harith ibn al-Masih, who was a boy, and forty mighty warriors. He said, "O Muhammad, what do you say about al-Masih? By Allah, we certainly deny what you say." Then it was revealed to him: {Indeed, the example of Isa (Jesus) in the sight of Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust, then said to him, 'Be,' and he was} (Surah Aal Imran 3:59) to the end of the verse. He then snorted in awe at what you say, saying, "But he is Allah." Then Allah, the Almighty, revealed: {So whoever argues with you about him after this knowledge has come to you, say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves' (Surah Aal Imran 3:61)}. He said that when he heard the mention of sons, he became angry and took his son's hand, saying, "Come, let us confront this." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then became very angry and called Hasan, Husayn, Ali, and Fatimah (peace be upon them all), placing Hasan on his right and Husayn on his left, with Ali and Fatimah at his chest. He said, 'These are our sons, our women, and our selves.' So bring us equals for them." Then his brother al-Aqib jumped up and said, "I remind you of Allah to invoke curses upon this man, for by Allah, if he is lying, you will find no good in cursing him, and if he is telling the truth, a year will not pass before one of you is left in despair or uncertainty." Ubaydullah ibn Musa said: So they made peace with him on all terms and returned.
