that when the verse of Allah, the Exalted, descended: {So whoever argues with you about him after the knowledge that has come to you, say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then let us pray earnestly and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars" (Surah Al-Imran 3:61)}
the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them) and said: "O Allah, these are my family."2 - .... Al-Qadi Iyad narrated in Al-Shifa
from Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: When the verse of Mubahala was revealed, the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Hasan, Husayn, and Fatimah (peace be upon them) and said: "O Allah, these are my family."3 - .... Ibn Kathir mentioned in his Tafsir that Abu Bakr ibn Mardawayh said from Jabir: The representatives Al-Aqib and Al-Tayyib from the Christian delegation of Najran came to the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and he invited them to Mubahala, promising them that he would meet them to invoke divine malediction the next morning.
Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) arose the next day, took Ali's (peace be upon him) hand, and said: "By the One who sent me with the truth, if they had asked for fire to rain down upon them in the valley, I would have done so." Jabir said: The following verse was revealed concerning them: {So say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves" (Surah Al-Imran 3:61).
