13392 - Hatim ibn Isma'il narrated from Bukayr ibn Musmar, from Amr ibn Sa'd, from his father, who said: When this verse was revealed: {So say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women" (Surah Al-Imran 3:61)} the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them) and said: "O Allah, these are my family." He was told by Abu Abdillah al-Hafiz, who said: Ja'far al-Khalidi and Abu Bakr ibn Balwayh both said: Musa ibn Harun narrated to us, from Qutaybah ibn Sa'id, from Hatim ibn Isma'il, and he mentioned it. Muslim narrated it in the Sahih from Qutaybah.

- .... Al-Walid said, and Abu Amr said: The delegation of Najran came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) with among them the Sayyid and the Aqib, and they argued with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in a dispute such as he had never been confronted with before. Then one of them turned away, and the other remained. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called him to mal'ana (a supplication ritual), and he agreed to it. But when he turned to leave, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to his companions: "By the One in Whose hand is my life, if they were to curse me, a year would not pass before there is an eye in Najran that does not blink." The next morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) was joined by Hasan, Husayn, and Fatimah (peace be upon them) and some of his companions, and they went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and said: "We did not come for the mal'ana, but we came to ask you to enjoin something upon us that we can perform for you and send someone with us to guide us on the way." Then the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "By the One in Whose hand is my life, if you had cursed me, a year would not pass before there is an eye in Najran that does not blink." Al-Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) then prescribed these Najrani cloaks for them ....

- .... And Muslim narrated in his Sahih from the hadith of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, who said: When this verse was revealed: {So say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons' (Aal Imran 3:61)}, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them) and said: 'O Allah, these are my family.' Regarding the statement of Allah, the Exalted, about 'our souls' (Aal Imran 3:61), there are five opinions. The first is that it referred to Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), as stated by al-Sha'bi, and Arabs inform about a son of the uncle as being a soul of the uncle's son.

- .... and I heard him say on the day of Khaybar: "I will surely give the flag to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger and whom Allah and His Messenger love." He said: So we began to stretch our necks for it, and he said: "Call me Ali." So Ali came to him, and he had sore eyes, and he (the Prophet) spat in his eyes and gave him the flag, and Allah opened (the victory) for him. And this verse was revealed: {So say, 'Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves' (Al Imran 3:61)} The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) called Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them), and said: O Allah, these are my family.

- .... So when the proof was established against them with what they recognized and confessed, and their doubt was invalidated regarding their claim that He was born without a male from the command of Adam (peace be upon him), He then invited them to Mubahala. Then the Almighty said: {So whoever argues with you about him after what has come to you of knowledge, say, "Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves; then let us pray earnestly and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars."} (Aal Imran 3:61). The narrators of the Sirah and transmitters of the report did not differ in this that the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) took the hands of Hasan, Husayn, Ali, and Fatimah (peace be upon them) and then invited the Christians who had argued with him to Mubahala. However, they hesitated and said to one another: "If you Mubahala with him, a happy one, the valley will be engulfed in fire upon you, and there will not remain a single Christian, male or female, until the Day of Resurrection."
