3052 - .... Then he said: "O people, I am your forerunner, and you will come to me at the pond (Hawdh), a pond as wide as the distance between Baisan and San'a, in it are the number of stars, two vessels of silver. And I will ask you when you come to me about the two weighty things (thaqalayn), so see how you will leave me in them: the greater weight, the Book of Allah, Exalted is He, a cause with one end in the hand of Allah and the other in your hands. So hold on to it tightly, lest you go astray or alter it. And My family (Itrati), the People of My House (Ahl Bayti), for he has informed me, the Subtle and All-Aware, that they will not be separated until they come to me at the pond."

What will you say?" They said: "You have given sincere advice." He said: "Do you not bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, that Paradise is true, Hell is true, and that resurrection after death is true?" They said: "We bear witness." He then raised his hands and placed them on his chest and said: "And I bear witness with you." He then said: "Do you not hear?" They said: "Yes." He continued: "Indeed, I am your precursor at the Pond, and I will be waiting for you at the Pond, and its breadth is greater than the distance between Sana'a and Busrā. In it are vessels as numerous as the stars, made of silver. So see how you will treat me regarding the two weighty things." And a caller cried out, "What are the two weighty things, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "The Book of Allah, one end of which is in the hand of Allah Almighty and the other in your hands. Hold firmly to it, lest you go astray, and the other is my family (Ahl al-Bayt)." And the Subtle, All-Aware has informed me that they will not be separated until they both come to me at the Pond." I asked my Lord for this for them, so do not precede them, lest you perish, and do not fall short of them, lest you perish, and do not teach them, for they know more than you." He then took Ali's (peace be upon him) hand and said: "Whoever I am a master of, Ali is his master. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him."

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood in a valley between Mecca and Medina and addressed us, saying: "I am but a human being about to be called away, and I will answer. Whoever holds fast to it will be on guidance, and whoever turns away from it will be in misguidance." He continued: "And I remind you of Allah regarding my Family three times." So, we said: "Who are his Family?" He replied: "His women? No, a woman may be married to a man for a time, then divorce him, and return to her father and mother.
