- .... Al-Nasa'i narrated in his Sunan: from Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna, from Yahya ibn Hammad, from Abu Muawiya, from al-A'mash, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu al-Tufayl, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: When the Messenger of Allah returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage and stopped at Ghadir Khumm, he ordered tents to be set up and then said: "It seems that I have been invited, and I will answer. I have left among you the Two Precious Things: the Book of Allah and my Ahlu'l-Bayt, my family. Observe how you will treat them after me, for they will not separate until they come to me at the Reservoir (al-Hawd)." Then he said: "Allah is my Maula, and I am the Maula of every believer." He then took Ali's hand and said: "Whoever I am his Maula, this Ali is his Maula. O Allah, befriend whoever befriends him and be hostile to whoever is hostile to him." I said to Zayd: "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" He replied: "There was no one in the tents who did not see it with their own eyes and hear it with their own ears." Al-Nasa'i was unique in narrating it from this angle. Our Sheikh Abu Abdullah al-Dhahabi said: "This is a correct Hadith."

- .... And Ma'ruf ibn Harboudh narrated it from Abu al-Tufayl, from Hudhayfah ibn Usayd, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage, he forbade his companions from descending around some closely spaced trees in al-Bat-ha, then he sent for them and prayed under them, then he stood and said: "O people, the Subtle, All-Aware has informed me that no prophet will have a lifespan except like half the lifespan of the one before him, and I believe that I may soon be called and respond, and I will be questioned, and you will be questioned. So, what will you say?" They said: "We bear witness that you have conveyed the message, advised, and strived, so may Allah reward you with goodness." He said: "Aren't you all witnessing that there is no deity except Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, that His Paradise is true, His Fire is true, that death is true, that the Hour is coming without doubt, and that Allah will resurrect those in the graves?" They said: "Yes, we bear witness to that." He said: "O Allah, bear witness." Then he said: "O people, Allah is my Patron, and I am the Patron of the believers, and I amCloser to them than their own selves. Whoever I am a Patron of, this Ali is his Patron. O Allah, befriend those who befriend him and oppose those who oppose him." Then he said: "O people, I am your forerunner, and you will come to me at the cistern, a cistern broader than the distance between Busra and Sana'a, containing vessels as numerous as the stars, with cups of silver. And I will ask you when you come to me about the two weighty things, so consider how you will leave me in them: the greater weight, the Book of Allah, the end of which is in the hand of Allah and the beginning in your hands; so hold on to it tightly, lest you go astray or change. And my family, my Ahl al-Bayt, for the Subtle, All-Aware has informed me that they will not be separated until they come to me at the cistern." Ibn Asakir narrated it in full through Ma'ruf, as we mentioned.

- .... Another narration: And Muslim said in his Sahih: Zuhayr ibn Harb and Shuja ibn Makhlad both narrated to me from Ibn Ulayyah - Zuhayr said: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, saying: Abu Hayyan narrated to me from Yazid ibn Huban, who said: I went out with Husayin ibn Subrah and Umar ibn Salamah to Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him). When we sat down with him, Husayin said to him: You have certainly encountered much good, O Zayd. You have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), heard his teachings, fought in battles with him, and prayed behind him. You have indeed encountered much good, O Zayd. Please narrate to us, Zayd, what you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said: O son of my brother, by Allah, my age is now great, and my time away from him is long, and I have forgotten some of what I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). So whatever I narrate to you, accept it, and what I do not narrate, do not burden yourself with. Then he said: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood among us, delivering a sermon at a place called Khumm, between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, the Exalted, and thanked Him, and admonished and reminded us, and then said: "Beware, O people, I am only a human being. Soon a Messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I will answer him. And I am leaving among you two precious things: the first is the Book of Allah, containing guidance and light. Hold fast to the Book of Allah and cling to it." He urged us regarding the Book of Allah, the Almighty, and expressed his desire for it. Then he said: "And my Family. I remind you of Allah concerning my Family. I remind you of Allah concerning my Family." Husayin said to him: And who are his Family, O Zayd? Are not his women also a part of his Family? He replied: His women are part of his Family, but the Members of his Family are those from whom charity is forbidden after him. Husayin asked: And who are they? He replied: They are the families of Ali, Aqil, Ja'far, and Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them). Husayin asked: Are all of these forbidden to take charity after him? He replied: Yes.

- .... And it has been established in the authentic sources: that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said in his sermon at Ghadir Khumm: "I am leaving among you two precious things, the Book of Allah and my Progeny (Itrah), and they will not separate until they return to me at the Reservoir (Hawd)."

- .... Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, from Abu Hayyan al-Timmi, who said: Yazid ibn Hayyan narrated to me, saying: Hussein ibn Maysarah, Umar ibn Muslim, and I went to Zayd ibn Arqam. When we sat down with him, Husayn said to him: "You have certainly encountered much good, O Zayd. You saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), heard his hadith, fought in battles with him, and prayed with him. You have seen much good, O Zayd. Narrate to us, Zayd, what you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." He replied: "O son of my brother, by Allah, my old age is great, my memory has faded, and I have forgotten some of what I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). So accept what I tell you, and do not burden me with what I do not remember." Then he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood one day delivering a sermon to us at a place called Khumm, between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, exalted Him, and mentioned and admonished the people. Then he said: 'Amma ba'd, O people, I am but a human being. It is likely that a messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I shall respond. I am leaving among you two weighty things. The first of them is the Book of Allah, containing guidance and light. So hold fast to the Book of Allah and cling to it.'" He urged them regarding the Book of Allah and encouraged them to value it. And he said: "I remind you of Allah regarding my Family. I remind you of Allah regarding my Family." Husayn then said: "Who are his Family, O Zayd? Are not his wives part of his Family?" He replied: "His wives are part of his Family, but the members of his Family are those from whom charity is prohibited after him." Husayn asked: "Who are they?" He replied: "They are the family of Ali, the family of Aqil, the family of Ja'far, and the family of Abbas." Husayn said: "Are all these not prohibited from receiving charity?" He answered: "Yes." And Muslim narrated this similarly (in the Book of Virtues), as did an-Nasa'i, from various chains from Yazid ibn Hayyan.

- .... Abu Isa at-Tirmidhi said: Ali bin al-Mundhir al-Kufi narrated to us, saying: Muhammad bin Fudayl narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Atiyya, from Abu Sa'id - and al-A'mash, from Habib bin Abi Thabit from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "I am leaving among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will not go astray after me. One is greater than the other: the Book of Allah, a rope extended from the heavens to the earth, and the other is my Titr, my Ahlul Bayt." And they will not separate until they come to me at the cistern (al-Hawd). So see how you will fare in both of them." At-Tirmidhi was unique in narrating this with this wording, and then he said: "This is a حسن غريب (Hasan Gharib) narration."
- At-Tirmidhi also said: Nasr bin Abd al-Rahman al-Kufi narrated to us, saying: Zayd bin al-Hasan narrated to us, from Ja'far bin Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) during his Hajj on the Day of Arafah, riding on his she-camel, al-Qaswa, delivering a sermon, and I heard him say: 'O people, I am leaving among you that if you hold on to it, you will not go astray: the Book of Allah and my Titr, the Ahlul Bayt.'" At-Tirmidhi was also unique in narrating this and said: "Hasan Gharib." There are other narrations on this topic from Abu Dharr, Abu Sa'id, Zayd ibn Arqam, and Hudhayfa bin Usayd.

Our Sheikh, Abu Abdullah al-Dhahabi, said: "And this is a sound hadith."
