Chapter on the Statement Regarding the Ahl al-Bayt of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and His Wives
Volume: (1) - Page Number: (325)
- Abu Muhammad Jinah ibn Nadheer ibn Jinah al-Qadi al-Kufi narrated to us, saying: Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Duhaim narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Zuhri narrated to us, from Ja'far, meaning Ibn Awn, and Ya'la, from Abu Hayyan at-Tamimi, from Yazid ibn Hayyan, who said: I heard Zayd ibn Arqam say: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up among us, delivering a sermon. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "Indeed, I am just a human being. Soon a messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I will respond to him. I am leaving among you two weighty things: the first of them is the Book of Allah, which contains guidance and light. Hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it." He urged them regarding the Book of Allah and expressed his desire for it, then said: "And the Ahl al-Bayt of mine, I remind you of Allah regarding the Ahl al-Bayt of mine," three times.
Husayin said to him: "O Zayd, are not his wives also part of his Ahl al-Bayt?" He replied: "Yes, his wives are part of his Ahl al-Bayt, but the Ahl al-Bayt of mine are those who are forbidden to receive alms after him."
He asked: "Who are they?" He replied: "The family of Ali, the family of Ja'far, the family of Abbas, and the family of Aqil."
He said: "All of these are forbidden to receive alms?" He replied: "Yes."
The master, the imam (may Allah be pleased with him and grant him peace), said: Zayd ibn Arqam made it clear that his wives are part of his Ahl al-Bayt. The term Ahl al-Bayt for women is a precise one and also encompasses the family (Aal), while the term family (Aal) refers to anyone forbidden to receive alms from the descendants of Hashim and the descendants of al-Muttalib, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): "Almsgiving is not lawful for Muhammad or the family of Muhammad," and his granting them the fifth (khums), which is a substitute for almsgiving, to the Banu Hashim and the Banu al-Muttalib. He said: "Indeed, the Banu Hashim and the Banu al-Muttalib are one and the same."
The term "wives" could refer to his wives only in the sense of resemblance by lineage. Zayd intended to specify the family from among the Ahl al-Bayt in his mention, and the wording of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) in his will concerning them is general, encompassing both the family and the wives. We have been commanded to pray for all of them."

2857 - Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, stating that Abu al-Fadl al-Hasan ibn Yaqub al-Adl narrated to him, saying that Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab al-Farra narrated to him, stating that Ja'far ibn Aun narrated to him, stating that Abu Hayyan Yahya ibn Sa'id ibn Hayyan narrated from his uncle Yazid ibn Hayyan, who said: I went to Zayd ibn Arqam, and he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood among us at a place called Khumm between Mecca and Medina, praised Allah and extolled Him, and gave an admonition and a reminder. Then he said: "Rejoice, O people, for I am but a human being who is soon to be confronted by the Messenger of my Lord, and I will respond. Indeed, I am leaving behind in your midst two heavy things: the first is the Book of Allah, which contains guidance and light. So hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it. He urged and encouraged this. Then he said: 'And my family, I remind you of Allah concerning my family.'" Al-Husayn said: "O Zayd, who are his family? Are not his women from his family?" He said: "Yes, his women are from his family, but the family he mentioned are those who were forbidden to take charity after him." Al-Husayn asked: "And who are they?" He replied: "The families of Ali, Aqil, Ja'far, and al-Abbas." Al-Husayn then asked: "Were all of these forbidden to take charity?" He answered: "Yes." This was reported by Muslim in the Sahih from the narrations of Ismail ibn Aliyyah, Muhammad ibn Fudayl, and Jarir from Abu Hayyan.

13238 - Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, saying: Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Yaqub narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab narrated to us, from Jaafar ibn Aun, from Abu Hayyan, who is Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Yazid ibn Hayyan, who said: I heard Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) say: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood among us, giving a sermon. He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "Amma ba'd, O people, I am but a human being about to be visited by the Messenger of my Lord, and I will respond to Him. I am leaving among you two precious things: the first is the Book of Allah, which contains guidance and light. So, hold fast to the Book of Allah and take it as your guide." He urged them to do so and encouraged them to value it. Then he said: 'And my Family, I remind you of Allah concerning my Family.'" Al-Husayn said to Zayd: "And who are his Family? Are his wives not part of his Family?" He said: "Yes, his wives are part of his Family, but the People of his Family are those who are forbidden to receive charity after him." Al-Husayn asked: "And who are they?" He replied: "The family of Ali, the family of Aqil, the family of Jaafar, and the family of Abbas." He said: "All of these are prohibited from receiving charity." Al-Husayn asked: "Is that so?" He answered: "Yes." Muslim narrated it in his Sahih from the report of Abu Hayyan, and likewise, the sons of their paternal uncles from the Banu Hashim, as evidenced by what is mentioned in the narration of Abd al-Muttalib ibn Rabiah ibn al-Harith from his father. Similarly, the sons of al-Muttalib ibn Abd Manaf, as evidenced by what we transmitted in the authentic narration from Jubayr ibn Mut'im from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), that he said: "Indeed, the sons of al-Muttalib and the sons of Hashim are one and the same," and he granted them a share from the portion of those near to him.

He praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: "To proceed, O people, I am nothing but a human being. It is likely that a messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I shall respond to him. And I am leaving among you two precious things; the first of them is the Book of Allah, in which is guidance and light. So hold fast to the Book of Allah and adhere to it." He urged them regarding the Book of Allah and encouraged them to value it, then said: "And my Ahlu l-Bayt, I remind you of Allah, the Exalted, concerning my Ahlu l-Bayt," three times. Muslim narrated it in the Sahih from the narration of Abu Hayyan al-Timimi.
