Ibn Abi Asim - Kitab al-Sunnah
Chapter on the Mention of the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) Saying: "I am your forerunner at the Pond"

754 - Narrated to us by Abu Bakr, who said: Amr ibn Sa'd Abu Dawud al-Hafiri narrated to us, from Sharik, from al-Rukayn, from Qasim ibn Husayn from Zayd ibn Thabit, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am leaving behind in you the two successors after me: the Book of Allah and my itrati, the People of my House, and they will not be separated until they both return to me at the Pond."

Chapter on the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) statement: "I saw in a dream as if I were drawing water from a well with a bucket attached to a rope..."

1465 - Ibn Kasib narrated to us, saying: Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn Thabit narrated to us, from Amr ibn Abi Amr, from al-Mutalib, from Jubayr ibn Mut'im, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "Am I not your protector? Am I not your best?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "Then I will be your forerunner at the cistern on the Day of Resurrection and Allah will surely question you about two things: the Quran and my family (itratu)."

1548 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Asim said: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, as did Sharik, from al-Rukayn, from Qasim ibn Hasan from Zayd ibn Thabit, who reported it with a chain going up to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saying: "I have indeed left among you the two successors after me: the Book of Allah and my family (my 'itrati), for they will not part until they both return to me at the Pond."

1549 - Abu Bakr narrated to us, saying: Abu Dawud narrated to us, saying: Umar ibn Sa'd narrated to us, from Sharik, from al-Rukayn, from al-Qasim from Zayd, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said:"I am leaving among you the two important things after me: the Book of Allah and my عترتي, my Ahl al-Bayt. And they will not separate until they return to me at the pond."

1551 - Ya Zayd, narrate to us what you heard him say. Zayd said: Zayd stood up and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood and addressed us with a sermon in a place called Khimā between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him, admonished, and reminded us, then said: "Experience, O people, I am only waiting for a messenger from my Lord to come to me, and I will respond. And I am leaving among you the two precious things: one of them is the Book of Allah, which contains guidance and light. Hold firmly to the Book of Allah and follow it." He expressed his desire for the Book of Allah and encouraged it, then said: "I remind you of Allah regarding the members of my household." He repeated this three times.

1553 - Ali ibn Maymun narrated to us, saying: Sa'id ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Abd al-Malik, from Atiyyah al-’Aw fi, from Abu al-Khudri, who said: "Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say?" O people, I am leaving among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will not go astray after me: the two weighty things, and one of them is greater than the other. The Book of Allah is a rope extended from the heavens to the earth, and my Ahl al-Bayt. And they will not separate until they come to me at the cistern."

1554 - Abu Bakr narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, saying: Zakariya narrated to us, saying: Atiyah narrated to us, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said:"I am leaving among you two precious things, the Book of Allah, which is a stretched rope between heaven and earth, and my descendants, the Ahl al-Bayt. They will not separate until they come to me at the pond."

1555 - Abu Mas'ud al-Razi narrated to us, saying: Zayd ibn Awf narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Awaneq narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu al-Tufayl, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) returned from the Farewell Hajj, he was at Ghadir Khumm and said: "It seems that I have been invited, and I have responded. And I am leaving among you the two precious things (thaqalayn), one of which is greater than the other: the Book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. So look to see how you will treat me regarding them, and they will not be separated until they return to me at the [Pool of] al-Hawd." And indeed, Allah is my Protector, and I am the Protector of the believers." Then he took Ali's (peace be upon him) hand and said: "Whoever I am his leader (wali), Ali is his leader (wali)." He was asked: "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" He replied: "There was none in the saddle who did not hear it with his own ears and see it with his own eyes." Al-A'mash said: Then 'Atiyyah narrated to us from Abu Sa'id something similar.

1558 - Sulaiman ibn Ubaydullah al-Ghaylani narrated to us, saying: Abu Amir narrated to us, saying: Kathir ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Ali, from his father from Ali (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and her holy progeny) said: "I left among you what, if you hold fast to it, you will not go astray: the Book of Allah, its rope in the Hand of Allah, and its rope in your hands and the hands of my Family."
