Ibn Abi Asim - Kitab al-Sunnah - Chapter on the Virtues of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them)
Volume: (2) - Page Number: (644)
1555 - Abu Mas'ud al-Razi narrated to us, saying: Zayd ibn Awf narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Awaneq narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Abu al-Tufayl, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) returned from the Farewell Hajj, he was at Ghadir Khumm and said: "It seems that I have been invited, and I have responded.
And I am leaving among you the two precious things (thaqalayn), one of which is greater than the other: the Book of Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt. So look to see how you will treat me regarding them, and they will not be separated until they return to me at the [Pool of] al-Hawd." And indeed, Allah is my Protector, and I am the Protector of the believers." Then he took Ali's (peace be upon him) hand and said: "Whoever I am his leader (wali), Ali is his leader (wali)." He was asked: "Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)?" He replied: "There was none in the saddle who did not hear it with his own ears and see it with his own eyes." Al-A'mash said: Then 'Atiyyah narrated to us from Abu Sa'id something similar.
