514 - Muhammad ibn Fudhayl narrated to us from Abi Hayyan, from Yazid ibn Hayyan, who said: Husayn ibn Subrah and I went to Zayd ibn Arqam and sat with him. Husayn said: O Zayd, you have encountered much good; you saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and heard his sayings, and you fought in battles with him. Tell us, O Zayd, what you heard from him. Zayd said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up to deliver a sermon to us at a place called Khum between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him, admonished, and reminded us, and then said: "However, after that, O people, I am only a human being. Soon a messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I will answer him.
And I am leaving among you two precious things: one of them is the Book of Allah, which contains guidance and light. So hold firmly to the Book of Allah and take it as a guide" - he encouraged and urged them regarding the Book of Allah - "and the other is my family. I remind you of Allah concerning my family." He said this three times. Yazid and Husayn said to him: Are not his women part of his family? He replied: Yes, his women are part of his family, but the members of my family are those from whom charity is forbidden. They asked: Who are they? He said: The families of Ali, Ja'far, and Abbas. They asked: Are all of these not permitted to receive charity? He answered: Yes.
