- .... an absolute mention, not attributed to any specific knowledge, as one might say: the People of the House, and the listener would understand that he means the Family of the Messenger, and they referred to the cause, meaning the People of the House as well.
And this is a reference to the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) statement: "I left among you the two precious things, the Book of Allah and my Ahlulbayt (my family). They are two unwavering ropes extended from heaven to earth, and they will not separate until they return to me at the Pool." Thus, the Commander of the Faithful expressed the Ahlulbayt with the term cause because the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) had said: ropes, and in language, a cause (sabab) is synonymous with a rope (habl).
