Al-Lalakai - Sharh Usul I'tiqad Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah
Chapter on the Mention of Those Designated for Leadership in the Sunnah
Narration of What Was Reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) Encouraging Adherence to the Book and the Sunnah
And from the Companions, the Followers, and Those Who Came After Them, as well as the Opponents Among the Scholars of the Ummah (may Allah be pleased with them)

88 - Ubaydullah ibn Uthman ibn Ali narrated to us, saying: Uthman ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Yusuf ibn Musa narrated to us, saying: Jarir and Ibn Fadhil both narrated to us - and the wording is that of Jarir ibn Hayyan al-Temimi - from Yazid ibn Hayyan, who said: I went out with Husayn ibn Subray and Umar ibn Muslim to Zayd ibn Arqam. When we sat down with him, Husayn said to Zayd: You have certainly encountered much good, O Zayd. Tell us, Zayd, did you hear anything from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)? He said: O nephew, by Allah, my years have become many, my time away has been long, and I have forgotten some of what I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). So, whatever I tell you, accept it, and what I do not, do not burden me with it. Then he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood up one day among us, giving a sermon at a place called Khumm, between Mecca and Medina. He praised Allah, extolled Him, admonished, and reminded, then said: "Beware, O people, I am but a human being who is soon to be called by my Lord's Messenger, and I will respond. I am leaving among you two precious things: the first is the Book of Allah, in which is guidance and light. Take hold of the Book of Allah and cling to it." He encouraged adherence to the Book of Allah and expressed its importance, then said: "And my Ahlul Bayt (holy progeny). I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahlul Bayt. I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahlul Bayt. I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahlul Bayt." This was narrated by Muslim.

95 - Abd al-Rahman ibn Umar ibn Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Al-Husayn ibn Isma'il informed me, saying: Abu Hisham al-Rifa'i narrated to us, saying: Hafs narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Shabi, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) drew a line for us and said: "This is the Path," then he drew several lines and said: "These are the paths of Satan, and there is no path among them except that there is a devil on it, inviting people to it. I am only a human being, and it is likely that a Messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I will answer him and I will leave among you the two weighty things, the first of which is the Book of Allah, the Almighty, which contains guidance and light. Whoever holds firmly to it and acts upon it will be on guidance, and whoever neglects it and misses it will be in misguidance. And I remind you of Allah, the Almighty, regarding my Ahl al-Bayt: {And hold firmly to the Rope of Allah all together and do not become divided} (Surah Al-Imran 3:103).
