3316 - Ja'far ibn Aun narrated to us, who said: Abu Hayyan narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Hayyan, from Zayd ibn Arqam, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood one day delivering a sermon. He praised Allah and recounted His blessings, then said: "O people, I am but a human being. Soon, a messenger from my Lord will come to me, and I will answer him. I am leaving behind among you two precious things (thaqalayn). The first is the Book of Allah, which contains guidance and light; so hold fast to the Book of Allah and cling to it." He urged and encouraged this. Then he said: "And my Ahlulbayt (holy progeny). I remind you of Allah regarding my Ahlulbayt (holy progeny)" three times.

- .... But here, there is a hindrance to understanding "Ahl" as referring to the entire Ummah, which is the hadith: "I am leaving among you two precious things, and if you hold fast to them, you will not go astray: the Book of Allah and my Itinerary (Ittrat)", and this hadith is in Sahih Muslim and other sources. For if "Ahl" were to mean the entire Ummah, then what is being commanded to hold fast to and the matter to be upheld would be one and the same, which is false.

2357 - Yusuf ibn Musa narrated to us, saying: Jarir and Muhammad ibn Fadhal narrated to us from Abu Hayyan al-Taimi, who was Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Taimi al-Rubabi, from Yazid ibn Hayyan, who said: I went with Husayn ibn Sumrah and Amr ibn Muslim to Zayd ibn Arqam, and we sat with him. Husayn said to him: O Zayd, did you see the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), pray behind him, hear his hadith, and go on expeditions with him? You have certainly received much good, O Zayd. Please tell us, O Zayd, a narration that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) and were present with him. He replied: Yes, my nephew, he was among the last of my time, my age is great, and I have forgotten some of what I used to remember from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). So, whatever I narrate to you, accept it, and what I do not narrate, do not press me for it. He then said: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) stood among us, delivering a sermon at a place called Khum. He praised Allah, exalted Him, and admonished and reminded us, then said: "Afterward, O people, I am only a human being who is soon to be visited by the Messenger of my Lord, and I will respond to him. And I am leaving among you two precious things, the first of which is the Book of Allah, containing guidance and light. Whoever clings to it and acts upon it will be guided, and whoever neglects it and misses it will be in error. I remind you of my family; Allah reminds you concerning my family three times." Husayn said: Who are his family, O Zayd? Are not his wives part of his family? He replied: Yes, his wives are part of his family, but his true family is those who are forbidden to accept charity. Husayn asked: Who are they? He replied: The families of Ali, Aqil, Ja'far, and Abbas. Husayn said: Are all these forbidden to accept charity? He replied: Yes.

- .... And what strengthens this iswhat is in the hadith of Zayd ibn Arqam narrated by Muslim: "I remind you of Allah regarding My Family," as a concerned father says, "Allah, Allah, regarding the rights of My children," and they will not part, any Book of Allah and My Progeny in the situations of the Day of Resurrection until they return to me, with the letter 'y' in 'they will not part' being emphasized, referring to the Pond, namely al-Kawthar. This means they will thank you for your actions towards Me, so look how you will replace Me, with the letter 'n' being emphasized and the letter 'k' being relaxed, that is, how you will be after Me, successors, that is, acting and clinging to both. Taybi said: Perhaps the wisdom in this recommendation and the association of the Progeny with the Qur'an is that the obligation of loving them is evident from the meaning of His Words, the Almighty, (Say, "I do not ask of you any reward for it except the love in relation to kinship.") (Surah ash-Shura 42:23), for the Most High made the gratitude for His blessings and kindness through the Qur'an contingent upon loving them in an exclusive manner, as if the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) is urging the ummah to uphold gratitude for that blessing and warning them against ingratitude. Whoever adheres to the recommendation and shows appreciation for that act through good stewardship in both will not find them parting, thus they will not be separated in the situations and scenes of the Day of Resurrection until they return at the Pond, thanking his act before Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). At that time, he himself will reward him, and Allah, the Exalted, will compensate him with the ultimate reward. And whoever neglects the recommendation and is ungrateful for the blessing, his ruling will be the opposite. In light of this interpretation, his statement is well-placed: "So look how you will replace Me in them," and 'look' means to reflect and ponder, that is, reflect and exercise caution in your replacement of Me. Is it with a true succession or a bad one?" He said, "This is a good, strange hadith."
- And Muslim narrated it from another source with the wording: "O people, I am but a human who is soon to be visited by the Messenger of my Lord, and I will respond, and I am leaving among you two heavy things, the first of which is the Book of Allah, in it is guidance and light. So hold fast to the Book of Allah and cling to it." He encouraged them regarding the Book of Allah and expressed a desire for it, then said: "I remind you of Allah regarding my Family. I remind you of Allah regarding my Family. I remind you of Allah regarding my Family," the hadith.
