al-Shama'il wa Nahwaha - Chapter on the Statement of Allah, Exalted and Almighty:
{ Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely grant them succession upon the earth } (Surah An-Nur 24:55)
Volume: (6) - Page Number: (324)
- Abu Tahir al-Faqih, Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz, Abu Zakariya ibn Abi Ishaq, and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr informed us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Hakam informed us, saying: Ibn Abi Fadik narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Dhii'b narrated to us from Muhajir ibn Musmar, from Amir ibn Sa'd that he sent a message to Ibn Sumrah al-Adawi, meaning Jabir ibn Sumrah, to narrate to us what you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He said: I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "Religion will remain steadfast until there are twelve men, successors from Quraysh." Then, liars will emerge before the Day of Judgment, and a group of Muslims will arise to extract the treasure of the White Palace, the palace of Khosrow and the descendants of Khosrow. When Allah gives any of you something good, let him begin with himself and his family, and I will be ahead of you at the pond." Muslim narrated it in the Sahih from Muhammad ibn Rafi', from Ibn Abi Fadik.

Chapter on His Prophecies about Twelve Emirs and Explanation of This with Evidence from Narrations
Then His Prophecies about the Oppression of Some Governors and the Appearance of Wrongdoings, and it was as He Had Informed
Volume: (6) - Page Number: (519)
- Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us, saying: Abu Ahmad al-Hafiz narrated to us, saying: Abu 'Arubah narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to me, saying: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated from Abdullah ibn Umayr, who said: I heard Jabir ibn Samurah say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "There will be twelve emirs," and he said a word I did not hear. My father said that he claimed: "They will all be from Quraysh." This was narrated by al-Bukhari in the Sahih from Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna and by Muslim from the narration of Ibn Uyaynah from Abdullah ibn Umayr, and this is what was reported in this chapter. There is no implication that this number precludes a greater one, and it has been said that he meant twelve emirs upon whom the ummah would unite, and then turmoil would ensue.

- And this was when Abu Ali al-Rudhbarī narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr ibn Dasit narrated to us, saying: Abu Dawud narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Uthman narrated to us, saying: Marwan ibn Mu'awiya narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from his father, from Jabir ibn Samura, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say: "This religion will continue to stand until there are twelve caliphs over you, all of whom the ummah will unite upon." So, I heard the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) words about something that I did not understand, and I said to my father: What is he saying? He replied: "All of them are from Quraysh."

Chapter on what was narrated about his informing of twelve leaders and clarifying this through evidence from the reports
Then his informing of the oppression of some rulers and the emergence of acts of disobedience, and it was as he had informed

- And Abu Ali narrated to us, saying: Abu Bakr narrated to us, saying: Abu Dawud narrated to us, saying: Ibn Nufayl narrated to us, and Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Bakr al-Qadi narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us, saying: Abu al-Zunbaq Ruh ibn al-Farj narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Khalid narrated to us, and both said: Zuhayr ibn Muawiya narrated to us, saying: Ziyad ibn Khaithama narrated to us, saying: al-Aswad ibn Sa'id al-Hamdani from Jabir ibn Samura, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "This Ummah will continue to be in a straight state, dominant over its enemies - or over others - until twelve caliphs pass from them, all of them from Quraysh." He said: So when he returned to his home, Quraysh came to him and said: "What will happen next?" He replied: "There will be turmoil." In the first narration, the number is clarified, in the second narration, the intended meaning of the number is clarified, and in the third narration, the occurrence of turmoil, which is killing, after them is clarified. This number with the mentioned attributes was found until the time of Walid ibn Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik, then turmoil and a great unrest occurred, as he had informed in this narration. Then the rule of the Abbasids appeared, as he hinted at in the chapter before this one, and they will only exceed the mentioned number in the report if the mentioned attribute is neglected or if those who came after the mentioned turmoil are counted with them. And the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said: "This matter will remain with the Quraysh as long as there are two people remaining."

- Abu al-Jald said, and he used to look into books: What Abu al-Husayn ibn Bishran informed us, saying: Isma'il ibn Muhammad al-Saffar narrated to us, from Sa'dan ibn Nasr, from Abdullah ibn Bakr al-Sahmi, from Hatim ibn Abi Saghira who reported from Abu Bahr, who said: Abu al-Jald was a neighbor of mine. I heard him say - swearing an oath on it -: "This الأمة (ummah) will not perish until there are twelve caliphs among them, all of whom will act according to guidance and the religion of truth, two of whom will be from the family of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). One of them will live for forty years, and the other for thirty years." I said, and it is reasonable that each one addressed by what we narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) about the twelve caliphs, and in some narrations, the twelve leaders, meant that he was referring to caliphs or leaders who would have authority, number, strength, and power, and the people would obey them, and their judgments would be applied to them. However, there may be individuals for whom no banner is raised, and no authority is established over the people, even if they deserve leadership due to their rightful kinship and competence. The report would not encompass them, as it is not permissible for the informer to be contrary to the report, and Allah knows best.
