Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili - al-Mu'jam - Chapter on the Muhammads (p.)

65 - Muhammad ibn Thalabah ibn Sawa said: Muhammad ibn Sawa narrated to us from Sa'id from Qatadah from al-Sha'bi from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he said: "There will be twelve leaders for this Ummah." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) whispered a word that I did not hear. I said to my father: What was the word he whispered? He replied: "All of them will be from Quraysh."

5031 - Shayban ibn Furukh narrated to us, who said: Hammad, meaning Ibn Zayd, narrated to us from Mujalid, from al-Shu'bi, from Masruq, who said: We were sitting with Abdullah after the Maghrib prayer, and he was reciting the Quran to us, when a man asked him: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, did you ask the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny): How many caliphs will this ummah have?" Abdullah ibn Mas'ud replied: "No one has asked me about this since I came to Iraq before you." He then said: "Yes, and I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and he said: Twelve, like the leaders of the Children of Israel."

5322 - Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, saying: Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Mujalid, from al-Sha'bi, from Masruq, who said: We were sitting with Ibn Mas'ud one night after Maghrib, and he was reciting the Quran to us, when a man asked him: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, did you ask the Messenger of Allah how many leaders this Ummah will have?" Ibn Mas'ud replied: "No one has asked me this since I arrived in Iraq, before you." He said: "Yes, we asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)," and he said: "Twelve, the number of the leaders of the Children of Israel."

7463 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Hatem ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from al-Muhajir ibn Musmar, from Amir ibn Sa'd, who said: I wrote to Jabir ibn Samurah with my servant Nafic, asking him to inform me about something he heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny). He wrote back: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on a Friday evening, the day of the stoning of the Aslami, saying: "The religion will continue to stand firm until the Hour is established, and there will be twelve leaders over you, all of them from Quraysh."
