- .... from al-Sha'bi, from Umar ibn Qays ibn Abdullah, who said: We were sitting in a circle that included Abdullah ibn Mas'ud when an Arab came and said: Which of you is Abdullah ibn Mas'ud? He said: I am Abdullah ibn Mas'ud. The Arab asked: Has your Prophet informed you how many there will be after him in terms of leaders? He replied: Yes, twelve, the number of the leaders among the Children of Israel.
- .... from al-Sha'bi, from Masruq, who said: While we were with Ibn Mas'ud, presenting our manuscripts to him, a young man said to him: Did your Prophet make a promise to you about how many would be after him as a leader? He replied: You are youthful, and this is something that no one has asked me before. Yes, our Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) instructed us that there would be twelve leaders after him, numbering the leaders among the Children of Israel.
908 - From Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr, from Jabir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I was with my father near the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and I heard him say:"There will be twelve leaders after me," and then he lowered his voice. I said to my father: What did he say that he lowered his voice for? He replied: He said: "They will all be from Bani Hashim."

- .... And in Majmū' al-Fawā'id: Jabir ibn Samurah reported, narrating from him:This religion will remain established until there are twelve caliphs over you, all of whom the Ummah will unite upon. I heard the Prophet's (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) words and did not understand them, so I said to my father: What is he saying? He replied: All of them are from Quraysh. This is also found in the works of the two Shaykhs, al-Tirmidhi, and Abu Dawood, in the same wording.
- .... Yahya ibn al-Hasan mentioned in his book al-Umda twenty different chains of narration insupport of the claim that there will be twelve caliphs after the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), all of whom are from Quraysh, with three chains in Sahih al-Bukhari, nine in Sahih Muslim, three in Abu Dawood, one in al-Tirmidhi, and three in al-Humaydi.
- .... And in Sahih al-Bukhari from Jabir, raising it to him:There will be twelve leaders after me. He then said a word that I did not hear, so I asked my father: What did he say? He replied: He said,All of them are from Quraysh.

- .... And in Muslim: from Amir ibn Sa'd, who said: I wrote to Ibn Samurah: "Tell me something you heard from the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny)." He wrote back to me: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) on Friday evening, the day he stoned the Aslami, saying: 'The religion will continue to stand until the Hour is established, and there will be twelve caliphs over them, all from Quraysh.'"
- .... And in the tenth chapter of the book Muwadat al-Qurba by Sayyid Ali al-Hamadhani, may Allah sanctify his soul and shower us with his blessings and openings, from Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr from Jabir ibn Samurah, who said: "I was with my father near the Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny), and I heard him say:'After me, there will be twelve caliphs,' and then he lowered his voice. I said to my father, 'What did he say in a low voice?' He replied, 'He said, all of them are from the Banu Hashim.'" And from Samak ibn Harb, there is a similar account.
- .... And from al-Shu'bi, from Masruq, who said: "While we were with Ibn Mas'ud, presenting our manuscripts to him, a young man said to him: 'Did your Prophet give you any instructions on how many will be caliphs after him?' Ibn Mas'ud replied: 'You are young in age, and this is something that no one has asked me about before you. Yes, our Prophet (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) instructed us:'There will be twelve caliphs after him, equal to the number of the leaders of the Children of Israel.'"

- .... And from Ubayyah ibn Rub'i from Jabir who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said, "I am the master of the prophets, and Ali is the master of the successors, and my successors after me will be twelve, the first of them is Ali, and the last of them is the قائم (Qaim), the Mahdi."
- .... And from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) say, "I, Ali, Hasan, Husayn, and nine from the descendants of Husayn are purified and infallible," which was also narrated by al-Hamuwini.

54 - And in al-Manaqib: Our companions narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Hamaam narrated to us, saying: Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Malik al-Fazari narrated to me, saying: Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Sama'ah narrated to me, saying: Ahmad ibn al-Harith narrated to me, saying: al-Mufazzal ibn Umar narrated to me, from Yunus ibn Dhubyan, from Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi, who said: I heard Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari say that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) said to me: "O Jabir, my successors and the leaders of the Muslims after me will be (the first is Ali, then Hassan, then Hussein, then Ali ibn Hussein, then Muhammad ibn Ali, known as al-Baqir). You will meet him, O Jabir, and when you do, convey my peace to him. Then (Ja'far ibn Muhammad, then Musa ibn Ja'far, then Ali ibn Musa, then Muhammad ibn Ali, then Ali ibn Muhammad, then Hasan ibn Ali, and finally, the Qa'im, whose name is my name and whose title is my title, Muhammad ibn Hasan ibn Ali)." He is the one whom Allah, Blessed and Exalted, will open through him the east and west of the earth. He is the one who will be hidden from His friends in a way that none will remain steadfast in believing in his Imamate except one whose heart Allah has tested for faith. Jabir said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, can people benefit from him during his occultation?" He replied, "Yes, by the One who sent me with Prophethood! They will seek illumination from the light of his authority in his absence, just as people benefit from the sun, even if it is hidden by clouds." This is one of the concealed secrets of Allah and the hidden knowledge of Allah, so keep it secret except from its people.
